I just attempted to buy a boxed item (i.e. not a scripted vendor but an item set to buy), and I got the "stale transaction" message twice. For kicks I tried a third time and my money was paid to the item owner- however the item was not delivered.
I attempted to open the owner's profile to give her my transactions info and ask that she send me a copy of the item once things are back to normal, but I couldn't even open her profile.
Be careful out there!
