I know the answer to my question is out here somewhere. And fact is, I'm in a bit of a hurry even though I got two fantastic advanced content and scripting SL books "out for delivery" from Amazon that should arrive at my door on Halloween.
I own three parcels of land right now. 512, 1024 and 2048. I am going to build a huge home on the 2048 parcel but the other two are located next door but on another sim.
I want to rent those smaller ones out. I see the "rent me" booth boxes around and was wondering if that concept applies to renting out entire parcels of land too? Or can I even rent out my land at all?
I searched for "renting land" and "land rentals" and found questions on people wanting to rent, but not people renting.
I'm sure the topics will be thoroughly covered tomorrow when my books arrive but in the meantime can you give me a basic brief rundown on the concept/idea behind renting out property?
Thanks immensely!

Yes you can rent out your land. You don't need rental boxes to do it. Best thing to do though is to deed your land to a group and have your renters join the group.
The main thing you will need is a renter and those are not too easy to find.
There's a lot to know before you rent your land out. To ask more specific questions, there is a new group inworld called SL Land Answers Unlimited. You can IM any resident in the group your questions.

Ok. I actually have three friends who want to rent some land from me while they test the waters. I've been learning a lot about building and have been giving them tips on terraforming, skyboxes, etc.
What I want to avoid are ad farms. My land is a deep rich green that's fairly flat and the neighbors seem to take their building skills seriously. I'd like to keep it that way since my land is pretty much right in the center of it all and would really uglify everyone's view if I went nuts.
I'll check out the group you mention and see about joining and of course, my books will show me a lot as well.
Thanks

Thanks If you have the friends to rent already, just create a group and have them join. give them permission to set home there, change the music urls and edit and rez objects. you can have them pay you the rent directly.

Also, I would look out for any neighbours intending to sell their land. If you are concerned with the view, you would be well advised to buy their parcel before somebody else does and add it to your set of rental property. Otherwise you may well get an adcutter or club owner next door putting a major eyesore on the plot, thereby ruining the view for all.
Maybe drop your neighbours a brief message that they should contact you first whenever they may want to pack up and leave the region. This worked well for me.

Heh, this is precisely what I've been doing. I started with 512, then bought a 1024 next to it, and then on the other side bought a 2048. I'm trying to convince someone just beyond that to sell me her two 512 plots and then I'll have a nice square 4096 plus the 1024 and 512. I've gone nuts designing and building and I so deeply wish there was an offline SL environment I could play with locally just for me.

I see you've already got replies, but I just wanna say, your avatar name rocks! I've been silently saying it over and over just for the syllabic sensation of it all...

What are the books, please? Entrepreneur's Guide to Second Life: Making Money in the Metaverse and Creating Your World: The Official Guide to Advanced Content Creation for Second Life I got a good deal on them both being bundled together by Amazon. Was around $46 for them both.
