$96 million total gross income per year roughly is what LL makes from SL

Gross income is a pretty meaningless figure. The better question is what is their Net Profit?

With 3-400 people probably averaging US$75K a year and the cost of hosting (network/power/cooling/etc) 5000+ servers, US$93M doesn't seem like that big of a number any more.

It's a lot easier to complain about the SL platform than it is to design, develop, administer and maintain it!

we have to wait till april to find out? Of course, you have to figure in Cost of operations, staff... lunch dinner company luxry cars gas hotel and hooker expenses into this to.. So that profit isn't im sure as large as you think.

It looks like the number Hamlet pulled out of his, um, hat last year. http://nwn.blogs.com/nwn/2008/05/how-much-is-lin.html

Hm.

Truth to tell, for all the problems we have, I'm amazed that the grid runs as well as it does.

It's sort of like working on a running engine that can't be shut off.

I can't think of any big computer software company that I couldn't make the same complaint about. All software more complex than, say, an elevator control panel operating system is buggy. Most of it still works more or less well enough, most of the time.

Oh yes, this. Given how much has to work together just for login, I'm surprised any of us make it inworld some days.

This was a better statement 2 years ago, when the sl population was exploding.
