So, this company called Vollee has come up with a really innovative way to play SL on a 3G mobile phone. Here's a video of someone playing SL on a phone: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XwRnjbkljncHere's a video where they (Vollee) talk about how it all works: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e1Qpabx2aPcI think it looks very interesting, although I'm not sure I should trust Vollee with my login information. Does LL know about/endorse this, or is it against the TOS? - Jon

There is a website where you can play SL (text only offcourse) so I don't see why playing trough a phone would be a problem. Offcourse LL won't suport or endorse it they don't forbit it either you can log in using any viewer you can think off, heck thousends of bots do it 24/7. What you do with the viewer is offcourse subject to the TOS.

Well, the thing is with this technology the viewer is running on a PC in Vollee's data center, and they are basically streaming video of the GUI to your phone, and responding to your interaction. So when you log in, you're basically giving them your user name and password, and asking them to log you in on their PC.
My Virgin prepaid phone comes with $7/month unlimited internet access, so I think this could be very interesting.

In japan they have secondlife on a cellphone......very very basic but effective never the less.............IMode is the system for NTT docomo a example of one phone provider systems user. But its not cost effect for some comapnies since they pay per unit bit used....

I've done something like this. By running Palm VNC and connecting to a computer running SL, I was able to control my avatar on a Treo, and there was other software that did pretty much the same thing. This one seems to use a special client, and a proxy server to format the whole thing for phones.

The graphics onthe phone are good small but useable....but the details of the UI can be trying at times.

Sure, but for people running SL businesses who have to be on the road, it could be a lifesaver... - Jon

I do it both: text only and via remote desktop using a HTC touch cruise (ppc with windows mobile). But it's better u don't see how it looks like on a so tiny screen ...anyway it's nice when u're outside bored, or for emergency.

New Mobile, but vollee servers are down?
04-05-2009 14:11
I got a new Nokia 5800 XM about a month ago and went on the vollee site to try and download a copy of their second life client (I know they don't support 5800 yet but was going to try another handset with a similar spec).
When I've tried to fill in the form and request my text it's "failed during registration" everytime and says their "servers are down". It's been like this for at least the last two weeks.
Does anyone know if they're still going or whether they've shut up shop??
I had it originally on my Sony Ericsson K610i and it worked great and I really want a copy for my Nokia. I can't believe noone else has noticed this?!

I would be interested too. I have two phones, HTC Touch Cruise(WM6.0) and Nokia 5800XM(S60v5). Does those have a client?
