Are there any other UK Orange Broadband customers who had no access to SL yesterday? I couldn't get the website, or any access to the grid. I'd have posted about it at the time but I couldn't get on the forum either.

I knew the grid and site were up and running, albeit with "Intermittent Website Connection" problems. Mine weren't intermittent - unless you there's a new definition that means "for at least 13 consecutive hours" :) My ISP weren't exactly forthcoming with information either.

Back to normal now, but I was wondering if it was only Orange customers who got a total block, rather than intermittent losses.

Well, here in the States, it was intermittent, but really bad much of the time (still today there are hiccups). If one's attempts were timed right, honestly I believe one could have thought it was totally b0rked here, too. (The grid didn't seem quite as bad as the website--I only hit the "cannot connect" on login screen a few times, and the pre-login splash screen would usually load, but with huge delays as it tried to populate the web content.)

I'm in the UK (diff ISP to Kelli) and have had the same experience as you Qie. Although it has been intermittent (as opposed to totally borked), it's bad enough to render SL useless to me - I've also been suffering frequent crash problems since moving to Vista last year, so the number of logins I have to attempt compounds the frustration. I will wait until they fix it before even attempting to sign in again.

::First post attempt ressulted in a 503 error:: lol

It's not just the UK

The 503 error is hitting worldwide. Harder in some places, intermititant at others. In any case this [Resolved] issue is making it a pain.

I've submitted a Support Ticket as well as IMed Teeple Linden directly. Until someone at LL finally notices, we're stuck with the problem.

Best thing to do right now is to file a Support Ticket if you have any problems. The more sent in, the more likely it is to wake soemone up to the issue.

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

Further message from SLU: there are people on Orange still having problems, who can't access the SL website or forums either and therefore can't respond here.

Pertinent thread:

Orange Broadband are just a really bad ISP.

I recall stories over at ADSLGuide about sites like play.com and meshcomputers.co.uk being blocked, and it comes as no surprise that they were the only British ISP to be haemorraging users when all others were undergoing tremendous growth.

The service (and customer service) is *that* bad.

It's just surprising that one of these blocked companies don't take legal action against Orange for damaging their business.

http://bethere.co.uk is my personal recommendation if you're close enough to an LLU exchange and ever consider switching.

Very fast (up to 24Mbps) and genuinely unlimited. (They do have an FUP but have never used it, despite having plenty of obscene downloaders.)

Weird, because apart from that one time when I started this thread (a while back now) my internet access, including SL, has been pretty good. I'll continue to count myself lucky *crosses fingers*

I guess you only notice these things if the sites you regularly use get blocked. Still, this is increasingly looking like a DNS issue as opposed to a deliberate blockade. ;)

As somebody mentioned that OpenDNS fixed the problem, anybody affected should just change their nameservers to:

208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220

They're free to use, but make a note of the existing nameservers before changing in case you need them in the future.

I'm with Orange - although the last time they did this (yes this is not the first time) I was unable to get into SL, even with the opendns fix, this time I seem to be ok, I have no idea why. I'm in world right now (although you can bet I won't be logging out unless I really have to, lol)

I'm with Orange. Couldn't connect to this web site or Second Life since Sunday night. I still can't, but right now I'm on my parents computer which is NTL and works fine.

I called Orange but their clueless. I really hope this gets fixed soon cause I can't drive an hour to my parents every day just to log on!

Ok. 26 hours since the problem began, and yes the openDNS thing DOES fix it.

Although that information was totally useless to me sitting here, because I couldnt access the secondlife forums, and nobody posted it on the Sluniverse ones.

Anyway. I wrote up a big long fix, mostly lifted from the open DNS website to be honest (I couldnt access that either, so I figured other people might not be able to read their tutorial)

its on my blog at http://www.neilrobinson.wordpress.com

If anyone else is having problems, either you or friends or whatever, then thats where you'll find the answers that finally got me back into SL.

Hmmm, funny, I seem to recall posting it on SLU shortly after it was posted here. :p
