Looked like a slam to me, perhaps I misunderstood.

it goes something like this...

IBM rep asks another what he is doing, and the response was something to the effect he was using an avatar and on an island. The first guy says, "are you making virtual money or real money" and the second guys says "my avatar doesnt know how to do that". Then in big letters on the screen it says STOP THINKING.

I thought IBM was a big player in SecondLife, why would the marketing dept make such a blatant slam like that?

Yes, been seeing that commercial for a few weeks now, definately looks like a shot at LL, but with the 10-07-07 annoucement of IBM and LL teaming up to make a 3D internet standard, I dont know how it should be taken.

There ar also other IBM commercials, one with a group of people laying on a floor in a room, in kind of a meditative state, maybe a jab at LL work enviroment, you know the "Come when you want, do what you want" culture.

There is one more that I have seen, but cant recall offhand what exactly it is, I do remember it was another jab about pretending to be innovative, or being innovative...IBM. Maybe its in the LL/IBM contracts that IBM can make a fewtongue in cheek jabs at LL expense, you see Mac to it all the time to poor ole PC

I just think it is funny and not necessarily a shot.

I thought it was funny because when I saw it, it reminded me to log into my SL account and cash out some RL $.

My take was that it was kind of a slam directed at people who think they are going to make RL $ in SL without doing anything.

That shouldn't really apply to SL should it? I mean lindens are convertible to real money. Ergo, if the guy was playing SL he would've said that he was making real money. I think they may have been referring to world of warcraft.

Since the AV handler seemed to be a slacker-type... that could explain why his AV didn't know how to make money.

I think it was a crack at slackers.

assuming IBM is still serious about being one of the lead dogs in 3D internet, I'd say it was a shot at everyone in 3D not making money (a la, "we're IBM and we can make you money in 3d environments";), sort of a ramp up to IBM offering something businesses would be interested in...

I'm not so sure. I took it as saying that figuring out how to do stuff in virtual worlds is difficult, so you should hire a really expensive IBM consultant. Or something.

I got as far as figuring out (or thinking that I did anyway) that they were using Hitler to portray Philip and stopped watching.

But the third job, some call it, uh, "the show" or "the big dance," it's the profession that every linden aspires to.
