Abuse Reports - do LL care?

A multi-question post... I submitted an AR on 23/10/07 and haven't had any response other than the email telling me it was received. How long does it normally take LL to address an AR? Do they email you with a response as to the result?

Would you think, given the recent bad press about sexual-ageplay (sorry to dig this up again), that LL would deal quickly with accusations, even if it's just to check up and decide it's not an offence after all?

The last one concerns the offence I AR'd, so I'll have to tread carefully to avoid breaking the 'no-names' policy. A shop which sells nothing but prim genitalia and other sex-related items is using a picture of the very childlike Red Riding-Hood av, naked apart from the cape & hood, to advertise a female skin with nipples and pubic hair. I'd post a picture, but then I'd be publishing explicit CG imagery of a minor. But given the description, surely it's a breach of Community Standards that should be swiftly addressed?

LL no longer sends out resolution e-mails to let us know whether they did or did not take action.

If the offensive material is still there, then I'd say get several people to abuse report it. A quantity of abuse reports tends to get quicker Linden attention.

Also be sure to be as detailed as possible with your AR's. Don't leave anything out even if it seems easily obtainable. Also as mentioned multiple AR's for the same person/location will statistically get more attention as it's more likely to come up on their list. Also be aware your's may not be the only "Case" of sexual age-play that they are investigating, it may vary well be that yours is in their queue to be investigated, but they are busy working another sexual age-play case.

One other thing to keep in mind is that code exploits are top priority, these are investigated and handed off to the development team first. Then social/Community Standards ARs are prioritized by how complete they are and other factors such as number of related ARs for that Case.

well you use the word accusation so there in lies the crux. In the end they ahve do decide if its true or not. YOu can track stuff though on the police blotter if you know time and when and where and remember that info it will eventually pop up. They try to keep it anonymous to prevent other problems and protect themsevles.

The do take action but a lot of people assume I guess that they will be told all the dirty details or whatever. NOt so for one thing they are busy and for another well its not really anyone's business but that of the people who are involved (the person accused and LL the ones looking into it.)

Also there is that private estate managment thingy now where managers of private lands can now deal with all abuse reports. So say i make the report on a private island if the owner of the island has opted into this system its likely that the report got dealt with by them since they have full control and can remove all the offending stuff.

The Abuse Team is now the Governance Team. They have meetings every weekday at 10AM at http://slurl.com/secondlife/Kalmeere/20/40/31. Michael Linden usualy runs the meeting. You can see a full transcript of the run-around here: http://secondthoughts.typepad.com/second_thoughts/2007/11/the-source-of-t.html.

Yesterday was the discussion about the abuse system and the new one they are rolling out. This new system will be web-based - I don't know much more about it. Since they are not asking residents what they would like to see in a new abuse report system I am sure it will be a joke and easily gamed - as the current one is.

Thanks for the replies. The vendor in question is still in place with the same picture. I haven't seen the region name come up in the police blotter, although I've probably missed looking a couple of days. Either LL don't consider the use of a naked child avatar to sell sex-related items actionable, or not worth rushing to deal with.

That's actually not correct, blady. Michael was very open to suggestions regarding the new abuse report system and even commented positively when the comment came up that we needed to retain at least part of the in-game abuse report system.

Seems strange that they don't. Their system must at some point mark an issue as resolved, all it would take is for that part of the system to then automatically e-mail whoever submitted it saying "Your abuse report #313123 was marked 'resolved', the abuse report was as follows: <abuse report>".

That way the resident then knows something was done, and can investigate to see if it has been resolved or not. Though I suppose if it doesn't include a reason then some irate resident will just re-submit their AR for an offence that isn't actually against the ToS.
But then those are the kind of people that submit ARs repeatedly for a few days solid anyway, and didn't actually ask the person they're ARing for input into why their plywood box is on the parcel next to theirs or some other silly thing :)

Aree I don't see asking one question of 12 residents (that happen to wander into the area) a public open forum looking for resident opinions on a new abuse system already developed.

Having seen posts in these forums about some of the silly things people AR about, I'd almost guess that number is almost double. Is it really any wonder that they don't respond quicker? I have no doubt that at least 90% of the ones they receive are a complete waste of time.

Did you make it VERY obvious in your abuse report title?

Of course they care ... but really, if you are concerned, get into a live chat. If you don't have access to that go to Help Island and ask for help.

Posting about it here doesn't do any good.

***edit*** They don't put everything they do into the Police Blotter cos there's way too many morons to deal with - it would be twenty pages long.

If you're concierge level then go to live chat, it's a much better system because it's interactive.

Well, "Child-like avatar picture advertising sexual items" I thought would have been obvious enough, and posted under the category of Indecency.

I wasn't expecting posting here to do any good, I just had a few questions about the AR system. I might try Help Island though.

Ciaran, unfortunately, I'm not at concierge level. Isn't it a pity that the only people who get taken seriously are the ones who spend the most money?

yeah, there's your problem... you posted it a category that gets ignored most times....

same topic new category, illegal activity, Tos violation, CC violation. anything along those lines would be given more attention (and still be true)

of course if the owner says "hey it's just a short person" then LL may do nothing.... it may even BE a short person
