Distance of stretch boxes from object

I am really puzzled by this. I have the two legwarmers mentioned in my previous thread. When I click one to edit and choose "stretch," the white boxes are nice and snug next to the legwarmer, making it easy to resize. When I do the same with the other one, the white boxes appear so far away from the legwarmer I can hardly see it once I've zoomed out far enough to access the white boxes. I don't see any difference in variables between the two to explain this.

BTW I'm talking about the object as a whole....if I edit a single prim the white boxes are close to that prim on both legwarmers.

NM - that doesn't make a difference.

The only time I notice this is if there is some kind of transparent prim attached that I'm unaware of. You might want to see if the legwarmers have matching prim counts.

Otherwise, I got nothing, sorry.

The one that's easy to edit has 111 prims, and the one that's hard has 109. It's the weirdest thing.

One way that could happen is if they tried to solve your other problem by using a carved-up prim that's much larger than the part that remains.

Okay, that's obscure. Maybe an example would help: A cylinder will hit that minimum 0.010 dimension and still appear pretty large, but a tube with most of the stuff removed will look just like a much, much smaller cylinder, thereby expanding the range to which the whole object can shrink. In fact, a teeny-looking tube could be quite huge, as far as those edit stretch handles are concerned.

There's probably a sticky post on Building Tips with gory details of making microprims that explains this better than I'm doing. :o

You can carefully inspect the properties of the prim(s) that have the large bounding box (path cut, etc.) to find out whether someone did what Qie is describing.

Over 100 prims to make a legwarmer? Please explain.

...I was going to say the same thing! 5 or 6 would be enough!

I imagine it is one of those with lots of little charms on it.

The worst stretch box problems I've seen are the ones where they use just the tip of a twisted truncated torus to make a curved horn, spike, or fang.

The good news is that after quite a struggle, I have both legwarmers looking pretty much the same, and smaller. The script was wonderful.

As to why these have so many prims, it is amazing, isn't it? They do have a lot of doo-dads on them, and details, but to have 220 prims combined for legwarmers is amazing. The number of prims doesn't matter, but what I don't know is how to tell how many textures need to be downloaded clientside in order to see them. I probably won't wear them to crowded events.
