Why ate their 2 Second Life forum?

Ow the xstreet forums gone.

The word is that these forums will be for the high road any day now, despite the poor opinion many regulars here, including myself, have of the official Linden version.

Quite a few have already defected to SLU, which is supposedly the most popular unofficial SL forum. I logged on there and registered once but I couldn't stand it: too much stuff loaded in every post. I haven't been back since.

I think I'll abstain from forums altogether when this one goes down.

Most of the across the street forums are NSFW - not that I would read even this one at work. They don't need to know what I do for entertainment. But I just find the coarseness of the other forums a little juvenile.

I do hope some of the alternative forums the regulars here have started will take off once these are closed. I doubt we can ever regain the same feeling though.

It wouldn't be the first typo in these forums and I certainly don't think it will be the list.

Because Linden Lab is trying to force everyone to move to their Blog-based forums, like they already forced the X-Street forums to move. But most of the people who are still on this forum say when LL shuts this one down, they won't move to the Blog-based and inadequate replacement.

It is the opinion of many here that LL would be very happy if most of the people in the Forums went away, and their new Blog was populated only by happy-talk yes-men who will accept anything LL dishes out and declare it wonderful, even though most people would compare it to a bowl of dog c***.

A blog is not designed for many-to-many diccussions. A Forum is. Linden Lab is choosing to restrict future communications to a blog, which is suitable for a few people putting out opinions and announcements that get a few responses. They are choosing NOT to use software that is suitable for many people to create many topic threads and have in-depth discussions. Draw your own conclusions.

Edited to add: XStreet SL used to be an independant merchandising website with their own independant forums to support merchant-related activities, Linden Lab had their own set of forums (These). Many months after LL bought XStreet-SL and made it part of Linden Lab, they folded the XStreet-SL Forums into the new blog-based SL forums. These forums are much larger than XStreet-SL forums ever were, but the Lab says we are doomed to the same fate.

The layout of slapt.me looks user friendly...will eventually migrate over to that one, once this one has been gobbled up!

SLU isn't so bad, it was the first non official forum I registered with I think, Second Citizen was scary and remains scary in its reincarnation, but the original Second Citizen closed and quite a few moved to SLU, but really, it's not that bad at all. There is some good discussion to be had there.

As for this forum closing, alas yes it is and if the activity from the old Xstreet guys is a guide, there will be a lot less people posting, which will be very disappointing.

You and me both. I've already cut way back on reading this forum so definitely not going to another one.
