Is that the oval basket with the file number 13 on it, by any chance?

Well, they decentralized the blog, so shutting down the forums must be next.

Do we have any idea what the forum changes will be? What software it will use? Will it be a Flash page with microscopic gray text with red highlighted text for links where you not only can't copy text but when you right click you get the Flash settings context menu? Are the forum changes part of the stuff that Big Spaceship will be involved in?

I have a feeling that the new version of the forums, if it appears, will be seen by many forum regulars and old timers as the worst thing LL ever did. I hope I'm completely and thoroughly wrong.

There's a lot of words there but very little of a substantive nature from the Linden staff.

No suggestion of changing from the current version of vBulletin. Guideline revisions and paid moderators who aren't Linden Lab employees is pretty much the sum of what I see stated by Lindens.

The forum changes are most likely on hold, because no one at LL is sufficently interested in that particular task to bother working on it.

The next most likely option is that they are waiting for their new high-pay consultant firm, "Big Spaceship", to help them to redesign the forums, along with every other aspect of the user experience. And if they do it, expect garish color combinations like red text on black, and a site that requires flash and other bells and whistles to access it at all.

I agree with Ceera, I think the forum and blog have got to be top of the "things we can't be bothered to do so lets outsource it" list.

I wish they wouldn't shoot stuff until the replacement is ready.

/me misses the one-stop-shopping of Torley vids and Jeremy/Jon posts and such.

There was an update on this from Robin a couple of weeks ago, the project got bloated and consequently fell behind schedule.

Also, downloading more than 20% of each post will be considered abuse, and you'll have to sign up for the new "homepage version" of the forum to be able to see the rest.

But it'll load really fast because only twenty people will be able to view it at the same time.

Robin's update doesn't say anything about any change one could perceive while using the forums.

The single sign on for the blogs and forum might mean that you couldn't post in the blog as one account in one browser tab and post in the forums as a different account in a different tab.

I had a several paragraph long post written along the lines of Ceera's passage about gray text black background Flash forums but decided not to post it because it was too cynical and depressed sounding.

i wish theyd just update to a recent vb and leave it at that.
knowing ll they are going to dump the db and delete years worth of tutorials, snippets, and sl history simply because nobody can be assed doing things right the first time.
im afraid that if ll try anything other than a simple vb update they will completely stuff it up.
