Where are all the people? (ie: nice safe social places)

What I am looking for are places that other "mermaid/merfolk" might actually BE (assuming they are not mermaids for sex reasons?).... or to go dancing for no other reason but to DANCE. I love ALL kinds of music and one place I did find a partner and we danced for a short time, until I realized what he really wanted... sigh.... my happy laughter was cut off....

My friend cautioned me to be blunt right in my profile, about how I am NOT interested in any sexual encounters, and taught me that I can just TP away if bothered, for which I am grateful...so I am not afraid to explore SL.... so I DO explore.... and as I fly around some music may attract me, but upon landing there is no one there....and I found some fantastic underwater places to swim, but again, no humans there too. I am not into this "camping" thing... Just looking for kind people who may have similar interests...go horseback riding, dancing, sit at the beach, wander through such magnificent gardens... and just talk (I have headset sound, as I can't type for a long time).... but for a world with so many people, where are they?

I of course see people in the stores, especially the finest ones...and have had help from others shopping, which is nice. As often as my friend can help, he does share where and how to shop, how to work my horse and dragon, etc....but he is a busy person with his business here in SL....

Any suggestions? (or threads on this subject?) I have tried to use the search engine, while in SL, and have gone to neat places... but as I said, they are empty of others, well but for couples once in a while, or one person rushing by, or maybe one or two sitting who obviously do not want to be approached... I read and searched the forums here too, but most threads seem to talk about all the problems, griefers and either how to avoid or how to have sex.... but I know there must be "regular folks" around too...as my friend, his wife and neighbors are really nice!

not sure where to find them, it used to be that clubs were popular with live ppl (non bots)

but now even the people in the clubs seem bottish.. (disconnected chat, non responsive, replies to each other that make no sense at all, and did I mention non responsive)

I am sure someone will suggest the forum cartel (a place built by a group from the forums that a lot of the forum regulars tend to hang out at, at times)

I would suggest just keep looking, chat with folks, if they do not respond then move along and keep trying

as for horseback riding have you tried going to one of the horse dealers out here (mcleans and akk come to mind) and see if anyone there wants to make a date for horseback riding. Not the romantic type date, just an agreed time date.

Thanks, yes, but AKK seemed so empty of folks too... but yes, I will keep trying, in all places... just hoping for some recommendations.

Perhaps a favorite REAL dance place? (I had never heard of those dance bots till I read here...that must have been what those strange acting people were at the one "busy" disco place I landed in... they were strange!!

Yes, am female, though enjoy male FRIENDS as well, as long as they are just friends. I do have a couple of good male friends in RL that live far away from me but I visit on the phone as often as I can... like having good brothers kind of relationship...

May I suggest you join groups that reflect your interests and then find out when and where they meet. You can check out members' profiles and if you feel brave contact them (especially the owners or those responsible for events) by IM.

A couple of busy places I like to go to socialise...

The Mill Pond Cafe. The most popular place I've found just for a sit down and a chat. Lovely regulars and usually some new folk each time I go.

Avilion. A light/safe medieval fantasy role-playing place where visitors are welcome. Beautiful sims with countryside to explore (on horseback perhaps) and friendly welcoming people. Regular social and skill events and there's also a merfolk presence here too. There's almost always a few people dancing around the campfire in the fairy circle. If you haven't checked it out yet this sounds just like your cup of tea


Also, just a thought. There are loads of party events that go out on the Forum Cartel group. Perhaps you could join (if you're not already a member) and organise some other fun events like horseriding. I adore my AKK horsey but having been riding in ages! I know that I get stuck for stuff to do quite often during the week as I'm on BST and SL is quite often soooo quiet.

In a way I think the niche market that's not being exploited yet is the need for a club/group that just organises fun stuff to do. No profit goal, not a 'looking for sex' thing, just for socialising. Bouncing around on pogo sticks, going surfing, exploring neat places, and visiting clubs together.

I did create one about two years ago but was way too busy back then to keep it running and I made the mistake of trying to cover all timezones with one group, which I don't think is possible without loads of helpers. Plus I'll admit, I'm rubbish at running stuff

Visit "The Shelter". Friendly people, dancing, and lots of help for newbies as well. It tends to attract people who like to help people. PG. Of course, anywhere you go, you can meet someone who is looking for "more", but this is definitely not a meat market, and folks who go there for that purpose usually figure it out before too long.

Another place I like to go is The Forum Cartel Hangout. Talk can get racy there, and it's not PG, but it is very friendly and is not a meat market.

With my health problems I could not organize something, as my body is not reliable but I sure will be visiting the places you sugest and also try to go at different times of the day or night to see when more folks are there...

someday I might do that again, but right now, no time (plus no sam, and my winamp is messed up)

someone told me something about sam4 but I am not sure if this is true or if they were misinformed

I was told that sam4 has what is called a buddy or friend option, where the owner of the program can purchase an additional license for a friend at a greatly reduced rate

Madhu's Bollywood Coffee Bar is fun as well. Often empty but I've seen a bunch of people there now and then.

I just finished building Marmaris Island and have included the complete 7 Seas Fishing Game, a Boardwalk-by-the-sea Arcade area with real arcade games, Pipe wave surfing and DJs on the Boardwalk. There is also a Live Music restaurant and horse trails. Most days you can find the staff and guests running about. Most are on voice and uber friendly. No mermaids yet but we do use our Linden Swimmer attachments to swim around the entire island. I will send you a landmark.
