Okay, I just sort of got some crazy idea about getting the SL open source stuff, playing around with it, learning it, and then maybe learning how to actually fix stuff. Question is, I've looked at the SL Techie Wiki, read the FAQ, etc, and I'm still a little blank on WHERE to start. I'm assuming I should download the Beta viewer, but the last version of that was July 17 from what I can tell. Where should I go? What book should I read? The Wiki is scary and not helpful. Is there some forum that I don't know about? Thanks in advance!

I supposed one would start with https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Open_Source_Portal and follow the links.
There was a useful non-SL run site for open source viewer work - but the data was lost about two months ago, and there was no backup. So, the official LL wiki is the place to start. You'll need to know C++. There's an IRC channel, opensl that can be useful. There's an inworld group OpenSl that might be useful. Do you program? _____________________

The first step would be to download the source and successfully compile the viewer (http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Get_source_and_compile).
Don't forget about the SL Dev mailing list either (https://lists.secondlife.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/sldev) . |
