As a paying patron, how do you feel about a club (or hangout) that has free linden sheep and/or free sploders around?
Does the free linden crowd bother you? Does it discourage you from frequenting that club, or do you think its helpful in bringing in traffic and new faces?

I used to find that type of thing appealing - back when I used to go to places. I particularly liked a system where anyone could put money in and it would be immediately shared with everyone there.

I personally don't like that kind of atmosphere right there inside the main part of the venue, but if it's something off to the side or outside or whatever it doesn't bother me that much. As long as the attention it creates doesn't distract/detract from the people that're there to use the place for it main purpose.. with things like lag, noise or constant shouting, zombies, bots, or griefing. Same thing as with popular prize chairs and such.... they can be a good thing for the business, but as a customer/patron there's a certain line where it becomes too much of a hassle or too annoying to come back to that place.

The people who would enjoy my club would be people with a particular set of preferences seekign a particular kind of entertainment. I don't think giveaways of a fraction of a penny target the particular kind of customer who would enjoy my establishment.
I haven't seen the sheep. The sploders are spammy and disruptive to conversation (just like gestures with the huge ascii art). I don't think people seeking conversation and socialization will be attracted to sploders. I wasn't when I used to go out to new clubs.
Sploders certainly attract some people to come to a place. The question is, does it attract the target audience that the venue seeks?

The sheep might help. It's important for a club to get a flow of new people. I would liken it to the effect you see at a welcome area. It's a social gathering. An audience. An anonymous crowd. A packed club.
The new people scrounging for lindens can easily turn into premium paying residents if they like SL enough and where will they go when it's time to hang out?

I wonder how Sheep became the default for this sort of thing?
I mean, it's not as if RL sheep are known for being a source of cash. So far as I know, anyway.
It seems more likely that they should be Grandma-shaped dispensers, since many people's Grandmas were reliable childhood sources for a nice free coin or bill....

Since LL seems to have forgotten their promise to bring back the Hippos, how about making some of THOSE? I'd love a Hippo that gave out $5L to anyone under 30 days old that touched it. With a timer...sort of like a Hippo version of a money tree. But the ears...the ears gotta twitch.

From: Marianne McCann I'd be afraid of getting fleeced! At first I groaned, then I thought, hey, that might be pretty darned profound! As well as being another argument in favor of Grandma dispensers instead of sheep! Or, not. (why do they call that smiley 'embarrassed'? To me it looks more like 'pleasant greetings' or such. 'Embarrassed' should have red cheeks!)
