changing your last name

I would like to change my last name to my partners. I heard it is possible. Can anyone help me with that?

Hi, Melaniee, welcome to the forums!

Pep is right. What a lot of people do to get around this is use the 'group tag', the text above your name that shows what group you have active. You create a new group for you, your partner, and your alts, and assign a separate role to each person. Give everyone group permission to create roles and tags, and then you and your partner can each make a tag that shows you are partnered.

For example, say your partner's first name was John. You could make yours "John's heart", and his could be "Mela's dude", or whatever.

It actually shows more commitment, since a group costs $100L, whereas partnering costs only $20L, I am led to believe.

LL have not thought this through. If they charge say 300l for ppl to have last name changed to that of their partners they could make a killing. Many partnerships only last a few months at best, person will want to change name again when it ends so 300L again and so on

The trick is you charge them 500 to change again.

We should be careful here after all LL is trying to clean up SL and having so many partnerships ending after such a short time is not good for the image. Maybe they could add a counseling fee also for ppl partnered less than a month. The couple would have to attend the course for a week min at say 200l each per session.

I think they should just let you change your name, myself. Charge for it, sure. Charge real money for it, make it as pricey as getting a new Premium account, sure. Restrict you to the currently available surnames, sure. Limit it to once a month or once a quarter, sure. But why make it completely impossible? It's not like the account name is that significant internally... your real identity is your UUID after all.
