Hi

A female friend has a problem.
Her RL hubby has pointed out that he can see all her IM conversations with her friends when he logs into SL on the same computer using his own login. Nothing sensitive, but they respect eash others privacy

She asked me (the IT guy) and I tested my own, single user.
Opening a friends IM - I can see a conversation I had 6 weeks ago!

I am sure this was not so -we have both downloaded v20
so this may be a new thing.

Has anyone any idea how to turn off IM logging?

(There is an option in Advanced menu, disable message logging -but the tick does not stick and it does bugger all)

Thankee

well, under preferences, you can turn them off, or put them into a folder with password, that should do the trick

I didn't spot that when I looked for it.
I'll suggest she tries it on an ASAPY basis

When I downloaded the new client I noticed that IM logging was initiated automatically. I turned it off, but when I chat to friends that I'd chatted to before I realised the chat was auto-logged, I can still see the portion of chat that was logged.

If that makes sense ~~~~

Mine is doing the same....it is showing the conversation that was had just prior to turning the logging off. I haven't done the clear cache thing or re-install, but I figure that might work. Or, are the logs saved in the program folder and can just be deleted?

I'm not at home to look up where the files are stored and it is probably different from XP to Vista any way.

One way to find them is do a file search and use the name of someone you have chatted with as the file name. The log files are flat text files. Just delete them and your good.

If you open your "Preferences" then click the "Communication" tab it will tell you where the logs are stored and you can change it there.

On my XP machine it is "C:\Documents and Settings\Jodina\Application Data\SecondLife".

I've noticed the logging going on too. Wonder why they defaulted it on?

Also.. I don't think my alt can see my main's IMs. I'll have to check that when I'm able to get back on.
