I just moved into my new home and discovered my nextdoor neighbor has a very vocal luck chair, calling out every minute or so. it is SO annoying. Is there any way I can mute it on my end? Thanks to all who reply,
Your peaceful pal,
Cheekers.

You can mute the object, but that would only effect you. Any visitors would still hear the chair. Contact the owner and ask that it be set to chat and that s/he restricts sound to his/her parcel. Otherwise you would have to ar the chair.

Hi Damien, Can you please tell me how I can mute the object so I cannot hear it. I live alone and have few visitors. That would be my best option, perhaps. Also, could you please explain what you mean by "Otherwise you would have to ar the chair." What is "ar the chair"? Thanks so much for the help.

From: Cheeky Chaplin Can you please tell me how I can mute the object so I cannot hear it. Open up your chat history window and press the << button to show who (or what) is speaking. When the chair chimes in, you can select it in that column and check the "mute text" checkbox.

Might I still suggest you contact your neighbour and (politely) mention to them that their chair is so noisy. It may well be bothering other neightbours too. Everyone should be respectiful of their neighbours in Second Life, just as they should in real life. This person may have no idea they are being a nuisance and be very grateful for being informed.
I know I would hate to be bothering people and not know.

If you ban your neighbor from your land, it will make it so you and your visitors do not hear any of his objects.

All Good Ideas, Thanks.

I didn't realize I had so many options. I knew I could depend on all of you for help.
These are all good ideas. I think Elgyfu is right that the neighbor should be made aware, but I guess I am reluctant to have my first contact with new neighbors to be a complaint about noise. And, I would feel bad banning them before I even meet them! So maybe I will mute it for awhile on my end and later perhaps talk to the neighbor about toning it down. I am yours in peaceful silence. Thanks all.

Or you could be cheeky, Cheeky, and just dash over whenever the chair calls your letter.

I don't know why "restrict sound to his/her parcel" isn't a default to begin w/ .

From: foehn Breed I don't know why "restrict sound to his/her parcel" isn't a default to begin w/ . Agreed, but I can't help pointing out that restricting sound wouldn't do a darned thing in this case. Sound is sound, chat is chat, 2 different things - you can't restrict chat from leaving a parcel. Would sure be nice though.

So, Here Is What Happened...
06-16-2008 12:20
Because I am kind of a loner and a little shy, I made the decision to simply ban my neighbor from my parcel without confronting her. It worked beautifully! The peace and silence was golden and just lovely for a few days until she noticed that she had been banned. She wrote me three IMs while I was offline to express her hurt feelings, and how I was being a bad new neighbor, and wondering if I was trying to shut down her business. (All this before we had ever shared one word between us. Sheesh! Paranoid much?)
So I had to scramble to let her know it was nothing personal. I probably should have just walked over there and asked her to tone it down, but what's past is past. Hopefully, we will be able to work it out amicably. I re-allowed her on my parcel and now I will wait to see if she will stop the (reactivated, noisy, extremely annoying) chair. Laterz.

A peaceful resolution
06-18-2008 12:14
This will probably be my last post on the subject. My neighbor very graciously agreed to tone down the chair, I offered freiendship and she came over to my house for awhile to chat. We left off on very friendly terms and the lucky chair is no longer a problem. Thanks again to all of you who replied. Special props to Elgyfu Wishbringer who made the kindest and most practical suggestion, and I should have followed your advice from the beginning.
Buh-bye!
