Don't know much about the Beta Grid, but I found this here,
http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Beta_Common_Questions

"Sometimes regions will crash and may not come back up, due to the beta nature the region may not be repaired until the next working day, on other hands, we may have to disable to free up machines to test other features, So while we try and maintain a core area of the beta grid any region is subject to change, this also goes for the availability of the grid, it may need to be taken down for testing or upgrades, these are usually done at short notice, and as is the nature of beta testing you may have to download quite a few versions of the client during a beta test."

Sorry, I saw the word 'Beta' in the title and completely skipped over the part where you wrote that you were using the 1.20 RC version. Is that the RC5, or RC6? If it is the RC5, you must replace it with RC6,
http://blog.secondlife.com/2008/05/07/new-release-candidate-viewer-120-rc6-available/

IF you are using RC6, then there could be many reasons (what does it say when you try and launch it?). You could always just trash it, and download it again.

The Release Candidates are set to connect to the main grid, not the "Beta Grid".

http://secondlife.com/support/downloads.php has links for all the viewers now visible on one page.

The Beta Grid is a separate grid from the main grid.

If you are wanting help, you might want to provide more detailed information than just "it don't launch."
