When do changes to the map take Place?

I have noticed that when I make changes to my land, it takes quite some time before this actually appears on the in world map.

Also, I remember when I was selling land that when the land was put up for sale, it took some time before it showed up on the map as a yellow box and not always with the $ sign to click on for the info.

Exactly when does this get updated or is this a random thing subject to rolling restarts and grid updates etc?

I'd assume its when the regions report in to the main server(s) or whatever, which I think is every couple hours

Nope, definitely not that, I have waited days to see changes to the inworld map..so that theory can't be correct..

Thats odd, My Mistress has been building her land for I think 5 days, and it changed over two days (Roof colour and size of parcel walled in), when she changed the land itself... maybe it depends on sim and such too..no idea o.o

My land has updated as well, within a day of each major change (Club to shop to gardens to home)

More like every 2 weeks or so .. I never been able to time it exact .. though some times it's at an arbitrary interval .. usually over a week.

My group bought a plot Yesterday evening.
The plot was a subdivision of a plot that had come on the market in the morning.
At that time of buying, the Map showed the larger original plot in yellow.
Today, the Map shows the new subdivision of the plots, with our plot no longer yellow.
SO - in this particular case, the updating of the Map took less than a day.

Strange thing however:
Clicking the $-icons in the Map brings up the area and price of the original larger plot.
The updating of the Yellow and the updating of the $-icons is not the same process.
I think the updating of the 'satellite shot' is a further separate process and takes longer.

I never understood the conditions that make those $-icons appear.
At one stage therre was a theory that it had to do with Landing Points and some land settings.
However, the land glut has resulted in virgin plots appearing in rows. SOme have the icons and some don't. When I go to check the land settings, I can't find a difference that would explain the icons. It appears to be random.

Yellow = for sale and is not part of the picture update. The picture update has occured at irregular intervals in the past (usually a week or two).

Osprey, I don't know if you was answering my question or another post?

I know that the Yellow box means for sale, but you say this is not part of the picture update, so when a plot is set to "Sell" then it will immediatley appear as yellow or is there a delay here as well?
Also, if the two are separate, the land and the $ info sign "referring to my original question" when/why or how do these options get updated?

The yellow "for sale" is about a day behind in my experience, which lately is rather extensive. You don't have to do anything... it's automatic, just delayed.

The picture of the sim, meaning what looks like a satellite image, I'm seeing that get updated every 1-2 weeks like Osprey says. There was a time a few months ago where it didn't change for maybe 2-3 months (at least on my sim... I was waiting for-EVAH to see someone's ugly build go away ;) ).

Zero Linden said at one of his office hours that generating the map is one of the most CPU-expensive things that a sim does. Sim servers don't really have graphics hardware so they have to draw the picture all in software. No idea how long it takes it to make the picture but it's a painful enough process that LL doesn't schedule it to run too, too often...

When we first got the satellite image version of the World Map, the update interval was an interesting question. Back then, people with enough land created large prim-clocks in the sky above their land. The concept was pretty simple, set the clock to tick once an hour, showing the date and the hour. Over a month, maybe a regular schedule developed, maybe not.

I wonder, since it's so sim-intensive... if the sim doesn't recognize low-population intervals and schedule for those times. I imagine every sim has high and low population points. Maybe a sim that is empty most of the time gets updated more often than a sim that is always crowded?

From what I have found, the picture is taken Saturdays or Sundays and updated on Tuesdays, sometimes Mondays. This is every week and if its not done by Tuesday, then its likely to have been skipped a week, although it doesn't happen too often that I have seen.
