How Are People Searching These Days

When it comes to searching for an item I always use the "All" tab.. but where do most people search? Is it

I don't know where to focus my energy.

My second question is whatthe hell is the showcase tab?

the "all" tab is all that has worked in search for me for sometime now .

People had to drag me kicking and screaming over to All search....always used Places search....but after asking a ton of people in the store where they came from....it's All search with you using the right keywords. If I know the name of a place....Places search works better for me to narrow it down.....some places will show up too many times in All search for a number of reasons, and you have to weed through more.

I know people complain about the effectiveness of the search on Xstreet....maybe as a store owner I should complain....but as a shopper....it gets me exactly what I want fairly quickly. So now, as a shopper, have given up All search.....and use only Xstreet....might be missing out on some great stuff.....but it's getting me exactly what I need, quickly....with good photos and details......without having to tp around too much....most cases, no tp-ing around at all....just a simple click.

More and more I find myself searching in "ALL". No particular reason other than I'm a bit lazy and to tend to prefer just doing it the same way everytime.

I use All Search only to find out what is in a sim. Otherwise, I use Places Search, or People Search, depending on what I'm looking for. If looking for a semi-specific item (I know what, just not what exactly), I use XStreet, then search for the person in SL to find their shop, or lack thereof.

I use the people search if someone has an item I want. I click it, check the creator and see if they have a pick classified. Just depends on what I'm looking for.

Places tab, people tab (after inspecting something I like) + picks and classified profile tabs, and xstreetsl.

I've tried the all tab a few times, but I always seem to get a lot of irrelevant results.

For inworld search, I use the All search now for nearly everything. I almost never uses places anymore.

Basically, it replaced Popular Places, which was based on traffic. Now the selection process for getting in is more hidden. LL provides info about how to submit your location for consideration, and what things may make you a more likely choice, but who really knows how they decide or even how many submit. I keep meaning to apply, but they mention they like candidates who are registered to use the inSL Logo and do so on their own websites, and I've never gotten around to doing that.

All tab generally, places if I'm looking for traffic numbers.

I use Places, People and Groups when I have specific names I am searching for. If I am keyword searching, I'll use All or Xstreet.

I use All search for absolutely everything except one thing. That is finding people's profiles. All search on't let you type in half a name like "Elan Flag" and give you a decent result and even if you do find the person you're looking for there's a second click before you get to see the actual profile. Since so many people have crazy unspellable names this is an very important feature for me.

I use "All" and "People". (^_^)

But, I usually only resort to "People" to try to take back the friends I ticked off the week before. (>_<

Depends what I'm looking for....I use classifieds quite a bit because usually if I'm using search, it's for a shopping project. I use All if I have a really specific search and it's not coming up in calssifieds or places. But......in the All search I get frustrated because I often find the item in All.....then TP to the location and wind up having to browse thru a bazillion venders or a shopping plaza just to find a single thing. I don't have the patience to do that so Classifieds usually gives me more accurate results.

I rarely use places.....unless I am, literally, looking for a type of setting for photos. I use people & groups for the obvious. I browse thru the Showcase lists every so often, because.....*gasp* believe it or not......there's some pretty cool areas to explore. Not all....but many I never would have known about if I didn't look at Showcase every so often.

For example....I saw Poetik Velvets in showcase......decided to check it out.....totally wild place......loved it! I've also found some cool shopping areas in showcase that I'd never heard of.......and thus found some fun clothes by designers I didn't know about.

Places, Keyword, then alphabetize the results and start at the top. I am strictly an inworld shopper, I've never used any of the other services.

Depends on what I'm looking for.

If I know, or think I know sim name: Map, places, all
(all three because sometimes the name listed isn't the sim name (i.e., Lost Worlds))

Randomly looking at clothing on XstreetSL using some random keyword (like nanoskirt;microskirt):
People (then look at the person's classified for store teleport, picks if not there)
If I can't find it through people, and a link isn't on xstreetsl, I move on.

randomly searching for some place to go through picture seen on Flickr (or like): see above; or if I do not know sim name:
Places, Map

shopping in world (somewhat rare, I'll go look at places I haven't been before, but mostly I "find out" about them through looking on xtreetsl, getting creator name from inspecting someone, learning of a sale, treasure hunt, etc.): Places

Oh, and if using search (instead of map), I always resort abc

I use all search. I esp love being able to find the coordinates of a particular item so that when I land i can go right to it instead of having to wander around looking. I do use people search if i need to find a profile quickly, but i use all search much more.

If I must search for an item in world I use the All and Classified tab. But usually I will not shop in world because it takes too long. I do like to use Xstreet for most of my shopping and if I see they have a link to their inworld store I will sometimes go there to see if there is a demo of the product out before I decide to buy. If I am searching for a populated social venue then I always use the Places search tab.

For products I always use SLX to start as its quicker than TPing inworld to stores. When i find what I want on SLX if then go direct ot the store inworld. If I cant find what I need on SLX then it use search 'all'. I use search 'all' for everything else apart from profiles. Cant remember the last time I looked for stuff in 'classifieds' and stopped using the 'places' search about 5 years ago when people were gaming Dwell.
