A while ago when my friend's first name became available as a SL surname, I registered his name backwards for a bit of fun  Now my alt's name is available and I reaaally want to do the same for myself, but the surname is never in the list. I saw it once when I had the wrong first name in (I just typed xxx or something so I could see the list) but every time I type my surname in as my first name and search... it's not there. I'm guessing it's entirely possible that there are some checks in place now to stop you registering the opposite of someone else's name, but I just wondered if there was any truth to that? It didn't used to be the case. I suppose it could be used for Bad Things (tm) so it would make sense, but I'll be pretty miserable if I can't have my backwards name  |

Got it! Phew  My question was - does anybody know if there are any checks in place to stop a person registering the reverse of an existing name, since the only time the surname I wanted showed in the list was when I typed a different 'first' name. But it seems it was just luck of the draw and I was being unlucky. Lots |

Not all available last names are displayed at once, think of it as a type of load balancer.
Could it also be possible that the first/last name combo you want is already taken? Not everyone shows up in search, people who have never logged in and also banned accounts are two things that won't show up in search.

Not possible, unless you just need the capitalization corrected for the first name, or you initially chose something that Linden Lab later deems to be obscene or objectionable. For most residents, the only way to get a different name is to create a new account, losing any non-transferrable assets the old account had.
