OK I'm a Mac User and putting SL on to a PC is totally alien to me, I've download SL to the desktop and now I'm stuck, what's the steps to get it up and running or where will I find this info?

However first thing first, this computer may not work with SL so if the following is likely to fail, then i guess i don't need the info in the first paragraph. This computer I'm on comes with a 'Intel(R) 829152G/GV/910GL Express Chipset Family' display adapter which I guess is the video card right?

Have you double clicked the installer you downloaded to your desktop? That is all you should need to do. Once installed it will ask if you wish to start SL now. The you just go into preferences and make your adjustments if you want.

Double Click gives me:

Windows cannot open this file:

File: SecondLife_1_18_5_3.dmg

To open this file, Windows needs to know what program created it... blah blah blah

What do you want to do

A. Use the Web service to find the appropriate program
B. Select the program from a list

If you are using Windows on your PC then you need to download the installer for Windows. http://secondlife.com/community/downloads.php

No, the chipset is a bunch of chips on the motherboard, though among other things, they do link the CPU to graphics controllers.

And what Felix said. Installing will create another SL icon which is a short cut to the viewer, and you can then delete the installer file on your desktop.

Dekka, you seem to have downloaded the Mac client instead of the Windows one.

An easy mistake. My roommate has a Mac and when he asks me questions about how to do things with it I feel like I have never touched a computer in my life. LOL
