first, i hope my question is appropriately placed. i have searched high n low for my answer to no avail. so, does one HAVE TO HAVE a bank account or credit card info on file in order to use a Visa GIFTCARD to buy lindens?

See if you can add the Visa giftcard as your credit card payment type -- some of the gift cards will work like a credit card.

Apparently, LL has stopped accepting most gift cards. The only debit cards that will still work are those where you can enter your address information on the card's website, like the Green Dot VISA cards.
If you have PIOF with another credit card, THAT is the card LL wants you to use. _____________________

The suspicion is that they stopped accepting cards that didn't include some form of identity verification due to a realization that it's very easy for kids under 18 to get one of these gift cards, use it for Payment Info, and access adult content. _____________________

The thing is, these gift cards require stronger identity verification than Aristotle before they're activated for the Internet. My understanding is that those that DO, will work. I use PayPal and regular CCs myself, and have never bought or received a debit card as a gift. _____________________

Those that DO, used to work. They recently stopped. The one I tried... they were refusing Linden Lab for high risk, not the other way around. Delightful. If it's not the Lab rejecting the card companies, it's the banks rejecting the Lab. I guess I'd better just start sending them money in unmarked brown envelopes. Oh wait...they don't take cash or checks... _____________________
