Ok so if anyone can give us some advice I'd be grateful. My friend's AV won't rezz in on her screen but I can see it just fine. For her it's always a cloud and she's cleared her cache many times, un-installed and re-installed SL several times, and tried logging into an empty sim. NONE of this has worked to make the AV appear on her end. Any suggestions?

Is she using a standard viewer? Does her graphics card meet the SL specs? How's her internet connection speed? Rebake? Etc.?

From: Snickers Snook Is she using a standard viewer? Does her graphics card meet the SL specs? How's her internet connection speed? Rebake? Etc.? She's tried using both the normal and emerald viewer in trying to get this fixed. Her graphics card very much meets the requirements and her connection speed is really fast. I can load fine on her computer when I use my account, but if she tries hers it just won't rezz.

Make sure everything has been detached - huds, etc. Try wearing default av. The settings don't get deleted on a reinstall, so try moving that folder in Docs&Settings to the desktop so SL will build a new one.
Try throwing away the SL folder in ApplicationData (first save what you want from it, or even just move it to MyDocs or something to see if it helps).
It's in different places for different operating systems: For Windows XP: c:\Documents and Settings\[your user name]\Application Data\SecondLife\
For Windows Vista/7: c:\Users\[your user name]\AppData\Roaming\SecondLife\

Wouldn't it be nice to have a "Clear Settings" button also? It would be nice not to have to try to remember the paths to the settings file for windows xp, vista, linux, and how to remove it on the Mac. I suppose Win7 may have a different path as well. One can always dream.

Tell her to try this: go to the advanced menu and choose character.. character tests.. character test female.
This will reboot her av, as it were, and give her a brand new, newbie, avatar. She can then reapply her old shape and skin, as good as new. I was told this trick by a Linden once, when I'd been ruthed for a couple of days (back before the, slightly less alarming, cloud of smoke was introduced) and it worked a treat.

We used to have the reverse problem. We could see ourselves, but others couldn't see us. It still happens sometimes. To fix that problem, sit on something, and they they should be able to see you.
For this problem, I'd try rebaking. It is somewhere in the advanced menu. It happened to me just a week ago and rebaking fixed it. -TyD
