Any advice on changing identity?

On the advice of a friend I've decided to "clean up" my identity. When I created my SL self I didn't know what I was doing (that hasn't changed, by the way). My primary self will be "Jackie Silverfall" soon. I own a small piece of land with a cottage on it and have a ton of unsorted junk in my Inventory. I know how to sell the property to my new av and I think that my landlady can easily flip my rented space over to Jackie. How do I get my inventory over, as well as my cash balances in both SL and XStreetSL? Is this possible? I'm going to downgrade this account to Basic and use it to be a general pest if I can get some loot over to Jackie Silverfall. Thanks for any newbie advice! Jackie.

Transfer any cash balances to your old account as L$, then search for your new account in the Search window and use the "Pay" function to transfer all your funds.

While you have the other account's profile open in search, you can give them any copyable or transferrable items you have in inventory. No-transfer items are just that, the new account will have to buy relacement copies.

In-world transferrable assets like land or a no-copy hot tub can be sold in-place to the new avatar, using the "Sell original" option.

When you go to transfer your land, be absolutely certain you set it for sale to the specific person who is your new account, do NOT set it for sale to "anybody" or a bot will buy it out from under you even if you manage to have both avatars right there the whole time.

This might work for the non-transferable items in your old identities inventory.

Give both your avatars rights to edit each others things and then when your old identity rezzes a non-transferable item, you will still be able to edit it.

However it will still show your old identity as the owner so it depends on how much distance you want to put between your old and new identity. Since you announced it here it sounds like having some of your old identities stuff on your land would be okay.

You can also use your old identity to store inventory to keep the size of yours down.

That's a good use of an alt.

Also, if you are owning mainland you could form a group with your alt and deed the land and your tier to the group. Thus you are able to own 10% more land than you could if you held it in your own name.

Moreover, you may graduate tier payments between your two identities and thus avoid paying for nothing due to the large tier jumps if there is only one tier contributor.

Good idea. I fully intend to keep this identity around. I'll have to figure out how to do what you said (rights to edit each others things). The only two things besides land that I have to worry about are 1) the security orb in my skybox/cottage (I'll be changing the owner of the land/skybox) and 2) certain X3 items (I may have to repurchase those). Put the new identity on your Friends list, then pull up the friends list. There are multiple boxes for each person -- the first indicates if they can see that you are online, the second indicates if they can locate you on the map, the third gives them the ability to Edit your objects (note this does not allow all editing in all cases), the fouth you cannot change yourself, but indicates if the Friend gave you editing rights on their stuff.

I second this, I had a plot snatced out from under my feet in like 1.0 seconds. And I am not the pnly one this happened to. And the Lindens will do nothing to help you, they can't. And chances are the a-hole who does this to you, will want to sell it back at double or triple the price.

A supplementary question
03-28-2009 17:06
Hope no one minds me asking a (relevant) supplementary question ;)

I know all about where LL stands on the issue of Alts, but how about having more than one premium account? Could I have two if I wanted?

Good luck with the switch SJackB btw...

Yes, you can. My Jackie Version 1 (SJackB) was prepaid for a year. Now that profile says "Downgrading to Basic" with an effective date of about 11 months and two weeks. Didn't get a refund. Maybe I'll find another piece of land...hmmm. J Ver 2.

Owwie.

OK, here is how to squeeze the most out of that soon-to-be-relegated-to-alt-status Premium account.

1. Once every couple of weeks, log in the old account and pay your new account any accumulated stipend.

2. Form a group with yourself. There's a L$100 group setup fee. Create the group, pay the fee, then send an invite to yourself. Log in your other account and accept the invite. Groups get a 10% tier break on land. If both of your accounts are premium, each is entitled to 512 m2 of land without having to pay tier. (You still have to actually buy the land, though, and it must be mainland, not a private estate.)

Let's say you find a nice parcel of land. You can buy up to (512+512)+10% = 1126 m2, deed it to your group, contribute your two 512 tier allowances to the group, and live there tier-free. And collect two L$300 per week stipends. A girl could pretty much keep herself in shoes that way.

Thanks, Lin (there's that T-Word again). Just a warning to everyone...right now the SJackB account is sitting in limbo. It is "Downgrading to Basic" with a completion date of 2010-03-22 (end of my prepaid Premium period). I logged in to it with the intention of bidding on a piece of land that's very close to my existing parcel, but it will not let me do it because LL thinks it is a Basic account. I can't upgrade it back up, I get an error message saying "You have begun to downgrade" and it references the 2010-03-22 date. Basically, I have a prepaid Premium account with 11 months left on it that I cannot use. I have a ticket open and have initiated a live chat (it's 4AM out there), but I think I'm screwed as far as being able to bid to get that parcel purchased within the next 8 hours. Beware, all. Jackie.

Yes, once you start the downgrade process, you can't purchase land again with that account until the process is complete, at the end of your original subscription period. To reverse the downgrade and return to Premium status any faster than that requires submitting a support ticket and getting Linden intervention.

Meanwhile, you do still get live chat, full help desk support, and the Premium stipend and ability to retain your existing land owned by that Premium account.

If you do reinstate a Premium account after a downgrade has completed, I believe the reinstated account's stipend is at the current rate, regardless of what it was before. If you had a higher rate and manage to STOP the downgrade, you might retain the older rate.

Happy talk about Linden Support
03-31-2009 07:09
I've only needed LL support once, and that was for this problem. Let me tell you that I could not be happier with their support, responsiveness and willingness to jump into action to help me out! I opened a ticket explaining my problem last night, very late. At 5:00AM PST today Samantha responded and told me the best thing to do was to reactivate my Premium account, which is something I wanted to do anyway. 10 minutes later I updated the ticket to say that I was requesting that the downgrade be cancelled, and 20 minutes later EVERYTHING was reinstated as requested. Thanks, Sam, wherever you are! :-) Jackie.
