Sometimes when you are in a crowded place the local chat gets to be a bit too much. Is there a way to mute the local chat?

I just keep the chat history window open. That keeps it off the main screen and confined to the window. Also allows you to scroll back to see what you missed.

ctrl-H brings up the chat history. Then just drag it off the screen if you really don't want to see any of it.1
