For whatever reason, there are times when you don't want certain friends to know you are online. On their profile there is a box to uncheck to do this. However it doesn't work. Has it ever worked properly?

Even when you are hiding your online status from that person by removing the "check" in the friend list. All they have to do is click on your profile and it will show you as online vis a message in the top right hand corner of your profile.

Or if they have your calling card, it will show you online. There truly is no place to hide in SL :/

Its better than it used to be.
In the old days ANYONE could search for you and the people search would tell them you were online.
But yeah hiding from your friends only lets them know you are hiding from them, but online.
So unless those "friends" are only business associates - they might take it personally

Not sure if this means you can delete First account and start again for free?!?
"First Basic account is completely free. Additional Basic accounts are available for a one-time fee of $9.95 each."

PSA : Alts are a valuable asset and should be treated with the up most respect. Please alt responsibly. Over alting can lead to lag. Althanasia is alticide and should be a crime. Thank You

I agree with that and that is why I personally prefer a small IM telling me a friend is busy with building (or whatever) or just a moment online to check something out. Morwen.

From: DaQbet Kish Or create an alt. But be careful they can make friends too. An alt isn't really useful if you're a builder. It's difficult having to transfer items back and forth, manage permissions and hide your alt's identity. and yes, it also means having to live up in the clouds so as to avoid being befriended by your neighbors. Either that or just be a big grumpy ass.

Morwen. People can understandably take it personal when you tell them you're busy. This is a virtual world after all, not the office. "I bet you wouldn't be too busy for Angelina Jolie! " It's true. I'd drop everything (especially my pants) for Angelina.

" It's true. I'd drop everything (especially my pants) for Angelina. Now you really got me laughing... If they are true friends they will understand that you not have always time for them (even when it is because of Angelina Jolie) and not even come with remarks like the one you make... which only show that they don't trust you. I respect someone who is honest with me more then someone who is hiding for me. And telling someone that you are busy with something else (which can be done in a very friendly and polite way) has nothing to do with being rude or a grumpy ass.... if so, many of my RL customers would be grumpy asses and most are absolutely not. In my opinion someone who is deliberately hiding for me is showing a deep disrespect for me, doesn't value real friendship and puts very less trust in my person. Morwen.

Morwen.
So you would be upset at a friend for turning their phone off? (Why do I get the feeling that we've had this conversation somewhere before?)

From: 2k Suisei So you would be upset at a friend for turning their phone off? (Why do I get the feeling that we've had this conversation somewhere before?) We did And no, I would be not upset. Turning off your phone I consider as going to busy mode in SL. Completely hiding your online status (if that would be possible) is not only turning of the phone, but also turning of the frontdoor bell and not opening it when someone is at it, blinding all the windows, return post to sender and some more things like that. Anyway, I would not mind if the would build "complete invisibilty" into SL, only I would not use it. But I guess we will never agree on this subject. But that is okay, people with different opinions making life interesting Morwen.
