Question about find Mentors, friends?

In real life I tend to keep to myself and in my second life it seems like I am doing the same most of the time which sort of concerns me.
My focus this last week after making some bad linden purchases is understanding how to do things in Second Life.
Group system from what I discovered getting help or making friends there is hit and miss at best.
Is there other ways to find Mentors and friends?

Club and social events are a good place to start. Actually...just getting out there and being socialable in general will net you a friend or two.

Hi FD. Have you tried just hanging out at the Shelter? You will find a lot of newbies there in the same boat as you are. And friendly experienced SL'ers who can help you out.

You can find it under "places".

Another thing to do, other than just groups, is to find an activity that interests you and go to events. You can meet people there, too.

Hi FD, and welcome to Second Life :)

If you are looking for a Mentor, you can always message me. I am always happy to help new residents and share some of my excitement for SL with them. Please don't hesitate to send me an IM.
