My alt has a problem in a certain region with scripted hair. When logging in there the av has no hair. Try to "wear" the hair item and an error message pops up saying something like "Cannot create an object that has caused a problem in the past" or something like that. TP home, wear the hair and TP back to the failing region and all is OK.
What would cause this? There were no error messages related to the hair object prior to this. Thanks!

I vote borkiness, I was just trying to resize my own prim and getting an error message that I wasn't allowed to do so.

Yeah, this does sound like one of SL's many endearing quirks. Just wait until your AO sends your head into "Linden Lab's view of the world" mode.

Could be, but it happened several times. I tried a couple of times to make sure it wasn't just a glitch and it happens every time my av logs in there.

Sims blacklist objects that "Create Problems" in them. Unfortunately, it seems to do it to random objects as well.
You will never be able to rez your hair in that sim. You can however submit a ticket to have it resolved. Expect to have your ticket responded to with "sorry we don't know what is wrong" until it gets to an "escalated" status. As support is not aware of this issue at the moment.

They get blacklisted if they've been assciated with "causing problems". Part of LL's anti-griefer, anti-auto replicating code I think. Go to a different sim, rename your hair, copy it, then rename the original back to what it was. The copy (with new UUID) *should* work. Would also be smart to get rid of any resize scripts that might be in it.

From: Jackie Silverfall Why? The hair item does contain resize/reshape scripts. How would this cause a problem? Blacklisting non-griefer objects is a puzzling thing to do. That said, under the best of circumstances, wearing hair with a pile of resize scripts in it is just asking for lag. However, if the scripts happen to be compiled for mono, I believe that there is still a bug where rezzing mono attachments can stall the sim. However, the sim incurs that same penalty when you TP in. Anyway, hairmakers should always include an option to allow you to remove the scripts (as, for example, Damselfly does). Of course, you prolly want to keep a copy with scripts intact, as well. .
