Please do not open this or a similar jira again. The permanent solution for hiding your avatars has already been worked on internally and will be released in a future viewer version. In the meanwhile, keeping the current bug in a working state will lead to MORE broken content later if we hold off on the fix for it. I expect that RC1 or RC2 of viewer 1.23 to have the fix for the invisi-megaprim bug. I repeat: we cannot wait on the fix since doing so will break more content for more residents.

Oooh, I'm so scared of the big bad Linden! Pff. This is the answer I was looking for: 1.23 RC1 or 2. That's fine, that's the same release as the alpha mask feature. Was that so hard, BigPapi?

From: Me

Re-closed because Papi's post didn't show up before. RC1 or 2 is acceptable to me. Thank you. Now, you should have said that BEFORE.

Your PR-fu is weak, grasshopper.

I'm not unreasonable. Just not easily deterred. ;) Once again, being loud works! :D

Still, it would have been funny to keep playing Close Tag. I was going to start putting silly things in my comments. Next would have been "Whatcha gonna do, whatcha gonna do, whatcha gonna do when Maya sets her sights on you?" :D

My experience has been that the tendency for Lindens to ignore people's JIRA comments is inversely proportional to the level of maturity displayed by those individuals on the JIRA.

Just saying.

What I want to know is what we're going to see when those 64k megaprim attachments suddenly become visible.

Does Amusing Linden have a bear?

Hmmm. Two thoughts:

I don't see why it is acceptable to repost a Linden's words in order to jeer at them, any more than it would be acceptable to do so to any other resident. Certainly repost Linden comments in order to DISCUSS them, but you seem only interested in mocking.

Also, I interpret these words as not particularly promising for your Jira:

After tooooo many years listening to and spouting program management-speak, I would interpret this as hinting that alpha masking may not be ready for RC1 or RC2.

For the first: Posting public chat is fine. And he was pretty immature, so why shouldn't I find it funny?

Second: It doesn't matter. 1.23 is 1.23. My customers will either A) Not be using the RC, and receive the fix when it goes live anyway, or B) Use the RC, and not wear avatars needing alpha until the relevant patch.

For everyone else: The whole point of that JIRA was to get Papi to stop acting like he was talking to a bunch of children who don't know how anything works, and actually SAY why the bug had to be stealth patched before 1.23, which is what he was hinting at in the alpha mask JIRA. He didn't give a reason, but he did give a timeline. That was acceptable, moving on now. I started the topic before he said that.

I don't think they'll be visible, unless they're slightly hollowed, or flattened or something. They would cover many sims after all, and no one's draw distance would be far enough to see the sides.

Will this in any way move JIRA VWR-6713 "Allow Alpha Channel of Textures to be used as a 1-bit Mask (Alpha Masking)" forward?

Like it or not Lindens are public figures, mocking public figures is a time honored tradition.

That makes me feel better. I was starting to doubt my right to snark. :D Actually, I now retract anything that may have been considered rude, as that was not my intention. My intention WAS fulfilled, so I'm happy now. :D BigPapi was pretty rude to me, though. Which is why I laughed to begin with.
