Hello SLers, i was wondering if there is a way to log in to second life.. other that the normal SL viewer.. coz i'm at work.. and i cant install the viewer, since Windows Vista Enterprise locks all installs and requires an Administrator. i solved this problem by getting a portable viewer.. but i couldnt log in.. i guess the loggin in server is blocked by the company too based on your experince fellew SLers.. do you know of any other way that i can login to SL?

You could wait till you get home.
You could ask your supervisor to get the IT staff to install SL on your machine.
You could get wireless broadband service and take a portable computer to work.
You could carry a very small satellite dish in a very large purse and use that with the laptop.
You could try moveablelife.net.

I'd be thinking if you are at work, you should be working. But if you can get away with it, why not?

using another internet is not the way to go..
and moveablelife.net just dont work right.. for some reason.. it stops after loggin in.. it wont load any of my friends list, maps, inventory.. nothing..
i just want to be able to IM ppl, send money and inventory.. that's all.. if it is possible.

From: Abdullah Lemon i'm at work.. i should be working.. but i need SL too.. I suggest not even trying to find a way in. What's it called when someone is paid to do something but does does something for him/herself instead, and still takes the money?

There are those who would argue along the lines of: If the practice of using SL from the workplace is not expressly forbidden then it's not dishonest or cheating or theft. So if the OP can find a technical way of doing something that they see as advantageous to themselves, then this is accepted by their employer as they haven't forbidden it. That would *not* be my approach, but there are those who do adopt that sort of approach in SL.

How dare an employer asks their employee to do REAL WORK during office hours. And we wonder why the economy is going to hell in a handbasket?

My approach is that, if something is expressly permitted, then it's ok to do it. Go back to sleep and try waking up again, Sling. Better still, stay asleep if you've better to do than troll.

From: Phil Deakins I suggest not even trying to find a way in. What's it called when someone is paid to do something but does does something for him/herself instead, and still takes the money? A coffee break. Seriously, at one place of employment the issue is specifically security, not my time, within reason. It's ok to spend five minutes on the phone talking for a personal conversation, or even to send text messages back and forth via cell phone, but it's not ok to do it via computer IM or email. (Of course, since it takes more than five minutes just to login to SL and TP some place, it would be unreasonable in any case.)
