Looks like the somewhat limited source code is out there. Anyone seen or played with this? What do ya'll think of it?

Back when LL was first talking about puppeteering, I thought it sounded _really_ cool.. I'm not so certain now, since it doesn't seem to be scriptable or something that you can turn into an SL animation file.

Still, I think it'll be interesting to see what people come up with.

It was never finished, what they're releasing is far from complete.

Some uses would have been grabbing your arm and waving at someone and they'd see you wave without the need for an anim.

Or as someone else suggested, being able to set a target for a joint so you could walk hand in hand without the need for a vehicle.

From the descriptions of how natural it is using the Space Navigator, I wonder what would happen if it were used for this (since with a mouse you'd only be able to move in 2D)...

Isn't that the purpose? To be able to move without needing a pre-scripted action or uploaded animation, simply move how you want when you want! :) I'd imagine a future feature would be to record those moves as an animation too!

Oh, sure enough, that's already mentioned in the wiki for it: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Puppeteering

LL just released it to the SLDev list yesterday. I have downloaded it but haven't tried it yet. I was quite saddened to hear they had no plans to resurrect it unless someone can do something "really cool" with it. But at the same time, the functionality they described is far behind what I was expecting. I'll have to see if i can see any redeeming value in the ashes. :\

I kinda prefer animations to the concept of avatar puppeteering. AP, in the wrong hands, would make a newbie look like an even bigger dork. Can you imagine all the contorting and spastic movements? It would be hilarious - which is OK, but I don't think that's the intention.

could be very cool to make it work with the 'sex motion capture suit' made by the guy who made that sex bed
