There is a setting in your control panel that governs how far back threads will be displayed. The archives are there - you just have to tinker with the settings to see them.

There are some very interesting reads in the archives. I've lurked there a lot, helps to soak up a bit of history so that you can see what was suggested, tried, discussed to death before now. Oh and they can be very entertaining also.
