Has anyone reading this gotten Second Life to work with the Zoom X6 DSL Modem? If so , can you please detail what you did?

Thanks!

(and just for reference on how far I've played with this problem...I've taken both the X5 and the X6, reset both back to factory standards, hooked them back up and the X5 works beautifully with SL without having to do a thing...no port forwarding, etc. ... the X6 I can NOT get to work with SL no matter what I do...Virtual Server, static IP, blablabla... yet the X6 works fantastic with everything else I've thrown at it.....HELP!! )

Yep, I have an X6 router too.
If your Internet works, then you should be able to get onto Second Life fine.

It may be that you need to enable the following ports on your router and/or firewall.

https://support.secondlife.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=4417&task=knowledge&questionID=4355

Second Life needs to connect to ports 443/TCP, 12035/UDP, 12036/UDP, 12043/TCP, and 13000-13050/UDP. You should configure your firewall to allow outbound traffic on those ports, and related inbound traffic.

To add these on your router, you will need to go to your router's config panel (mine is 10.0.0.2, or you just enter your external IP address into your browser).

I hope this has helped :)

Dan,

Did you have to enter those ports into YOUR X6 modem/router? I have tried just about everything including entering those ports in the virtual server setup, the DMZ setup, etc., etc. ... and no luck....yet, the X6 will connect out to the net just fine, works with every other online game I've thrown at it.....can you tell me what you did to yours to get it to run SL? Like I said, I can actually take an X5 and X6 side by side, both reset buttons used to bring them back to factory settings, and the X5 will connect to SL without doing a thing to it....and the X6 will not connect to SL at all....yet WILL connect to everything else!

Thanks!

Haha, I just checked and apparently I have no ports whatsoever enabled!
What is the error message you get upon attempting to connect to the grid?
[i.e. is it a DNS failure?]

I'm not getting an error message at all....when I go to login it just sits there with the "Second life may seem to be frozen...please wait" message.....then after a loooong while, I get the "Even with our best efforts, we were not able to establish a connection...please check your internet connection", blabla....hook up the X5 and whammo....in like flint....*shrugs*

Hmm, strange.
Try the knowledge base/support ticket system - I think there is a category for everyone which is "I can't get onto Second Life" or something like that.
