Id like to find a direct way to TP short distances - going someplace for which I do not have a landmark - without having to open up the map.
In fact the map is usless for this kind of thing, if you're not going very far the "teleport" button will not activate.
I'm thinking of when things/people are in the way - something more precise than flying. Like when you have an "OOO! Lookie THAT!" kinda moment, but the direct walking path is not clear. I know about "go here", that's not what I want. Firstly you still walk and secondly it only works if you can click on the ground, not prims.
I'd like something that is as direct, flexible, and geekworthy as an old-fashioned text command. Example: if I'm standing @ mysim 128/128/22, I'd like to be able to type "TP mysim/128/138/22" to make a 10m jump, or maybe "TP mysim/128/128/550" to get to my skybox...
that kinda thing.
Does anyone know any features/ideas/gadgets?
How about those "TP anyplace your camera is focused" gizmos? Any recommendations on one of thore?
TIA

assuming there's nothing in the way a hud that causes the av to move to the camera position would probably work.. I believe there's a script for it on the scripting tips forum...

Command line TP

From: Drivin Sideways Id like to find a direct way to TP short distances - going someplace for which I do not have a landmark - without having to open up the map. Chime Desoto has made the exact TP device you are describing. It is called "TP D LUX" and is available at the Bitmongers Gadgets & Art shop. Here's the SLURL: http://slurl.com/secondlife/The%20Endless/172/179/28Enjoy!

The limitation here is that, in order to get past obstacles, the teleporting avatar will have to become non-physical. And to do that, there will have to be a scripted object to "sit" on (though certainly not necessary to ever appear to be sitting). And that object will have to be rezzed. So, the parcel has to permit "building" and "scripts."

Cool gadget!
Never felt the need for it, tho, since I find there is nearly always something nearby that I can sit on, even if it's the top of a sign or something. If not and build is on, I rez a cube where I want to be and sit on it. Does the trick unless there is a truly solid object in between. One reason why many stores have pose stands scattered randomly about, for navigation.
A lifesaver during this month's sale at ETD, for example. Impossible to walk or fly.

Drivin, there's a freebie device on Nissan Altima island - a grappeling hook thingy that works like a tractor beam. You just point click and hold and get pulled towards whereever you want to go. Fun item and may do what you need.

In fact, yes, there is a very easy way to make this happen. The format of the command is : secondlife:///app/teleport/Plio/24/208/341/ (replacing the region and coordinates as necessary).
Type this in, then in your chat history, it creates a clickable link which will TP immediately - no map.
Alternatively, you could put the line in the URL bar of your browser and get the same result.
This syntax was added as part of the new Google/HTML search function... its how those "Teleport" links in the new search work.

... and your little dog, too!
A beautiful thing, that is. A beautiful thing. Long live command-line instructions.

One could make a scripted object that would take input like "goto Ahern 128 123 44" and emit an url of the proper forum.

My Omicron has a built in Camera TP, which is very useful. you just move your camera to where you want to go, and press the TP button, or type /8 tp. It rezzes a teleport beam right next to you which you sit on, and poof, you're at the location your camera was. only drawback is that rezzing needs to be enabled. I know there are a ton of ppl making similar items. Search for CamTP or Camera TP and you should get a number of hits.

I thought these ideas might be handily combined in an attachment that pushes the clickable tp location of the cam into the chat history. This avoids the problem of needing to be able to rez to get to the cam location. On the other hand, unlike a classic "sit" TP, this seems to just stop at sim border (can't really get the name of the neighboring sim when the coordinates are outside the current borders). Probably other limitations I haven't thought of yet. So, FWIW, the following simple scriptlet, should anyone want to give it a try: // Released to Public Domain by Qie Niangao, 2008 integer CHAT_CHAN = 11; // change to your favorite channel string TP_COMMAND = "tp"; // what to say to get tp loc to chat history
default { attach(key id) { if (NULL_KEY == id) return; llRequestPermissions(id, PERMISSION_TRACK_CAMERA); llListen(CHAT_CHAN, "", llGetOwner(), TP_COMMAND); } listen(integer channel, string name, key id, string message) { vector camPos = llGetCameraPos(); llOwnerSay("secondlife:///app/teleport/" + llGetRegionName() + "/" +(string)((integer)camPos.x) + "/" +(string)((integer)camPos.y) + "/" +(string)((integer)camPos.z) + "/" ); } }
(To recover script formatting, try to "Quote" the post and copy-and-paste from the resulting window.) As written, one would say "/11 tp" to get the cam location as a clickable tp in chat history.

Very nie Qie! works like a charm. I'll definetly be adding this to my Omicron as a user-specified function.
