what is the exact prim limit when building, say... something small like a necklace, or bracelet?

in one linkset i think you can have 255 prims, though it might be 256 (255 im almost sure though)

I assume you're asking about the size limit. Normal prims can't be smaller than 0.010m but there are ways around this limit. There's a sticky thread in the Building Tips forum about making tiny prims:

Keep in mind that each prim creates its own load on the server (fetching the prim data, at a minimum) and, I believe, on the client (drawing and updating each prim independently).

So, if you're asking about the number of prims in a necklace or bracelet, you should be doing your best to keep it as small as possible, without regard to what the hard limit may be.

The prim limit may also be controlled by the number of available prims left on the land upon which you are doing your building. You can't build a 255 prim linkset on a 512 m2 plot of land.

Oh, and 500 prims is too much for a pair of boots.
