Grrr! Notecard tricks anyone?

Hey all,

I spent the morning writing tutorials for the newbies...Tonnes of 'em...

They worked fine, i was set to put them in boxes in a hub for the newbs.... but I log back onto SL after a crash and all my tutorials are now empty notecards...Thousands of words allllllll vanished..

*deep breaths*

I've tried clearing my cache, copying the notecards and opening the new versions...I'm not sure what else (if anything) i can do to get them back?

Silly me trusting SL and not having extra copies out of world

Any hints for retriving the notecards would be greatly, greatly appreciated!!!!

This has happened since the update, you cannot put notecards in objects and if u do they become empty, i had the same problem earlier, notecards allready in objects before this bug will be ok

Aaah...Yes the tutorials were in boxes and the notecards had objects in (full perms ones)... so are they totally gone?

Since which update? I have been putting notecards into objects with no issues.

One of my standard issue notecards that I hand out a lot came up blank yesterday. Weird, wonder if there is something going on.

Funny, seems to work fine for me...

My guess would be that the server they are on ate them, or is having a heck of a time loading them (I've hade them load blank from contents but not from the open menu, or vice versa, etc...)

deep breath, do you have a copy in inventory? of the object or the card? go to a faster sim, try reading them from there... it may just be lag on the region or on the asset server...

in either case, whether it's scripts, notecards, pics, anims whatever... if you make it, keep a copy on the local HD... NEVER trust the asset server with your stuff if you don't have to.

Since a few days I noticed that sometimes notecards take a long time (a minute or more) to load upon opening. They sit there looking empty until suddenly the text appears.

Maybe the OP just needs to give it more time or try again during off-peak hours (e.g. around 1 am PST during weekdays).

On day.2 of my SL, one of my scripts didn't load. Just a 10-liner.
The fact that the script loaded later didn't reduce the 'oh shoot' lesson.
Since then, I keep well-commented copy text and versions on local documents.
I find it useful to have a record of a script development in a single Word document.

Ditto for Notecards. I tend to write the text off-world and paste it into notecards when ready. It's generally faster, and with spell-checking / spool-checking, etc.

My friend said clearing cache often means when you relog it takes even longer for specific files to show up in your inventory.
So I decided to conduct experiment.
I quit clearing my cache.
And I noticed I quit losing things as often.
I also quit crashing as often.
Not sure if the two are connected but its helped.
Prior I thought clearing cache corrected all sort of issues now I am wondering if it caused more for me.
Have you ever thought about using textured design of your tutorial on tga image
and put it on prim based book or just prims?
I like using note cards for filing important things too but I noticed every now and then things like literature on note cards from others or other personal note cards just quit working.

Which version? I am on the Release Candidate (non-windlight, with Search), and had no trouble at all just now creating an object, accing notecards to it, or creating a notecard and adding objects to the notecard. I even put objects and text into a norecard and then put that card into an object. All the text was just fine, when I re-rezzed the object.

hey again everyone, thanks for the tips... Tried to open them again on some lag free (well very quiet & open) sims but still no luck...

I think it's all gone for good...blah!!

Aaah well, second time they'll be better and yes i think i will consider trying some texture versions too

Sooooo writing my notcards in MS word in future...hahhahaha!!

if this notecard bug is for real, it may be enough to make me cash out for good. a bug like this would be seriously fucked up and would cripple my sl livelihood.

I had that prob... Wasn't able to save any notecard... but laters it worked, so... dunno Let it some time... Anyway... I couldn't find the notecards I did, so maybe you won't be able to have your tutorials back. I'm sorry

I just tested it and it worked fine, made a new prim, made a new notecard in inventory, wrote stuff on it, added it to the prim contents. it opened fine from the prim contents.
I added another copy of the notecard to the prim, edited it, saved it, and opened it back up with no problem.

I have on occasion found notecards and scripts take a really long time to open, until they do they appear blank. I have assumed it was lag or problems with the asset server.

Working fine for me, but on a slightly older client.

went inworld and checked the notecard I edited and placed yesterday. The edits were there and all the info came up. I have the latest non-windlight client.
