This relates to thread: /327/75/208634/1.html

But I think merits its own thread. Take a look at this conversation (from open chat in a busy store). Names have been changed, obviously. Note the "clone" command in the usage string, and the line as to needing a "request" at the end of the conversation.

BotOwner was in a store with many models (essentially campers), probably selling the services of BotOwner's bots instead.

Oh and I need to ask a question. OK: isn't this interesting?

[14:04] BotProvider Oh: meet my bot bot
[14:04] StoreOwner: hi bot :-)
[14:04] The Bot: hello StoreOwner
[14:05] StoreOwner: so this is your second account, right?
[14:05] The Bot: lol ist me BotProvider
[14:05] StoreOwner: i understand ;-)
[14:05] The Bot: iam controlled by IM
[14:06] BotProvider Oh: fly bot
[14:06] BotProvider Oh: land
[14:06] StoreOwner: does that work by a script or how?
[14:06] BotProvider Oh: with software
[14:06] StoreOwner: great idea
[14:06] BotProvider Oh: you can run 10 bots and be online your self
[14:07] BotProvider Oh: they make trafic
[14:07] StoreOwner: wow
[14:07] BotProvider Oh: they can camp
[14:07] StoreOwner: that's a great idea
[14:07] BotProvider Oh: they are like real atavars
[14:07] BotProvider Oh: usage /help [commandname] available commands: -=animation=- repeatanims, stoprepeatanims -=appearance=- clone, detach, fixlook, wear, wearnum -=build=- deletethis, rezmap, thiskey, thispermissions -=communication=- dialoglisten, dialogreply, listen, say, saychan, shout, stoplisten, whisper, who -=finances=- balance, buythis, givecash, paythis, sellthis -=friendlist=- allrights, invitefriend, resetrights -=info=- help, helpnote, programstats, regioninfo, version -=inventory=- cd, ls, mkdir, rezinvo, rmdir -=movement=- fly, follow, land, sit, sithere, sitkey, sitnum, stand, stopfollow, teleport, teleportav, teleportme, touchhere -=status=- busy, forceresit, logout
[14:08] StoreOwner: look at your IM dear ;-)
[14:08] BotProvider Oh: its legal

I'm not sure I understand what you are getting at. It's not terribly interesting, so I think I must be missing your point. Isn't this kind of thing old news?

OK, probably only interesting to a noob like me. I knew of course there are bots, but it was very interesting to me to actually see how rich the command set is. Including, of course, the clone command discussed in the other thread.

I was also highly amused to see the "I speak to Lindens daily" line, which in my comparatively brief time in SL I have seen so often as to think Lindens must do nothing all day but speak to these many dubious players!

Ah... Perhaps I'm just less impressed about bots, then :). Hope I didn't cause any offense with my comment.

Yeah, I can understand how that last sentence you wrote is kinda interesting, though it only proves that the guy makes an effort to talk to Lindens. Who knows, maybe he's one of those guys that always talked to the most popular girl in school, not knowing how irritated that made her :) Hard to say unless you are there for the conversations.

Yes, bots can have a very rich set of commands. My own bots actually have commands for drawing and sheathing swords, engaging in one-on-one melee combat, reporting sim stats, keeping track of people who use cagers or guns or nukes, etc.

It's all about what you want them to do.

FASCINATING!

I've been dying for a sort of... Librarian... an avatar that one could ask a question of, and get an answer, perhaps initially say the top answer from a basic internet search or database. Ideally the SL Knowledgebase too.

Also, a way to give Desmond some... 'AI' ... expanding my basic routine services 24/7.

Can you do these sorts of things? I'm very interested!

well... Assuming that you have a library capable of handling the chat part (http://aimlbot.sourceforge.net/ is one example), then the bot part is actually fairly easy now that the libsl guys have done the majority of the heavy lifting. The big problem is that most such "AI chat" libraries are interesting from a technical point of view, but rather disappointing with regards to conversational ability.

Parsing natural language can be a significant challenge. Looking up knowledge base answers is easier :)

I'm actually working on something similar for my own purposes, but on a very lax schedule (due to workload overload). I'd love to get your ideas and feedback as that project progresses though, if I may, and perhaps we can both benefit from such collaboration.
