Sports ?

I have come and gone many times with 2nd life. Lots of things have changed, some for the better some not. Figuring out where to post this question….not easy.

I would be greatly interested in starting up some kind of sports league. Football (nfl style), basketball, baseball. (I see hockey is nicely covered.)

Space, time, cost, all of course are issues but not anything that could not be worked out with the right group of people.

The idea is somewhere between fun and profitable.

First things first, can it really be done ?

I know basketball can be, I was playing last night and had a blast, but what about the other sports ?

Would there really be interest in it, or more just a passing fad. ?

Any help with this very basic at this time idea would be great.

After a boat load of more research I found a few single teams and lots of people that are no longer around any more.

If someone knows of anyone really involved with the sports end of things please point me in the right direction.

I'll ask around for you and let you know if I come up with anyone. Sorry can't be of much help. I would have thought a lot of others would have been here to answer the questions. I know someone who was turned off by SL just because there were no Football Teams (american football) or Hockey. But knowing this guy, we're probably better off

I have not done any virtual sports, but I have one friend who plays virtual hockey, and another who is in a car racing league.

The hockey Group is Virtual Hockey League. I don't know what Group is associated with the racing, but I'll ask my friend when I see her.

I know Football IS possible in SL. There is at least one group playing over at the Rutgers University Stadium, in the RUCE 3 sim. They had me modify the stadium field to be *exactly* 100 yards from goal line to goal line because someone was using a scripted system to play on that field. Contact Ron Overdrive, who is the Rutgers Administrator in charge of that sim. He should be able to get you in touch with the existing football teams, and their schedules. There's also several cheerleader squads, and at least one practices regularly at Rutgers.

I have seen bowling, darts, golf, skeet shooting, fishing, and at least one form of Basketball (free throw line shooting). I've also seen archery done well as a sport in SL.

There's also a number of things for competition horseback riding, and several forms of racing.

I love hockey in sl and it has greatly improved since 2 years ago. Being a boxing fan, hockey reminds me of boxing just on ice skates. I would look in search under the events tab and type in sports. It will bring up various sporting events. I would contact the either the host and they may give you the name(s) of some sporting groups. You can also search under the group tab for the sport you are interested in and join the groups listed there.

I got a scriptor to build me a fun and simple soccer sport that utilizes hoverpucks instead of balls and is a riot to play. No HUDs needed. I've never had the time to get a league going, but if you are interested, give me a holler in world and I'll show you what Air SLockey is like.

There's also fencing (several varieties), skydiving, sailboat racing. And a couple of things unique to SL, like aerial jousting while mounted on large birds resembling dodos.
