I saw that too
wonder if it affects 3rd party viewers?

my guess is it is for the new adult stuff

to find out the viewer you are on, when SL is open (doesn't have to be logged into world) go to help, about second life, it will be the first line

It's for the HTTP bug fix. Official viewers older than 1.21 will be borked by the change. Unoffical viewers based on the older stuff have already been patched to deal with this, go grab a recent Nicholaz or Cool build or something like that if you want or need to stay behind.

If you're not logged in, you don't even need to do that. The viewer version is in the lower right hand corner of the screen before you log in.

That's a technical issue that gets finally fixed and a positive step. As is the release policy that LL laid out in their blog.

It doesn't really have much of an impact tho. You will still be able to use older (pre-windlight and pre-voice even :)) viewers that work better on older hardware in the future. The 1.20 (and 1.21) version was not exactly a good release and is no real loss. Also there were a number of other security patches that are not included in older, not updated viewers and you should not use them in your own interest.

What old versions will still work (incl. security fixes):
Nicholaz 1.18.0.6 Old School (pre-voice)
Nicholaz 1.18.5.3 Bleeding Edge
Cool Viewer 1.19.0.5
Nicholaz 1.19.1.4 Eye Candy (Windlight)
Cool Viewer 1.20.17.0 (Windlight)

Please add if you know more.

The minimum requirements are the 6600, but that's not to say you're completely out in the cold. I'm no tech (others here are, and will probably be along to help in more detail soon) but I'd suggest one of the third party non-Windlight viewers (lower graphical demands), such as Boy Lane's Cool Viewer.

I'll second bot of those sentiments... I have an ATI AIW 9200 (128mb) that still works on sl.. but you have to seriously set the settings WAY down, also runs on a 700mhz machine, with only 384mb ram under XPpro (athough you really have to tweak it to remove most unneeded running processes.)

I've made a small update to the old CV 1.20.17.0 and it will also continue to work after 21 May.
