Hey, I'm a noob to Second Life, and when I first logged In I wanted to save this place (back than i didn't know how to). So when Its your first time and you Login do all people get sent to the same place? Or do you get sent to a Random Place?

I think there are a few login portals now, but once you leave the initial *login and learn* area, you can never get back, even with a landmark -- or so I've been told; never actually tried it.

I *think* newbies get sent to Help Island and when they are ready to leave they get sent to one of several welcome areas. You can't get back to Help Island once you have left, although there is a Help Island Public which has all the same tutorials and info. You can search for it on the map. To find the welcome area you started out at, you could try logging in to your "home" location. I think your home location is at your first welcome area until you set it elsewhere. If this doesn't work, you could do a search for "welcome area" and tour round until you find it (or one you like better). The "world" menu lets you create a landmark anywhere as long as the landowner has allowed it in the land settings. You can set home location (world menu again) at a welcome area, on your own land or on some group land. Some newbie places have a group you can join so you can set home to their location. Welcome to SL

The actual place you get sent to when you first log in is Orientation Island, but when you TP to the main grid, you can never get back there. There is a 'copy' of Orientation Island' on the main grid you can visit, but it's not where newbs actually get sent to. So the best you can do is the Orientation Island on the main grid. Sans creating a new avatar.

I got sent to a building that was square shaped. And It just had Pictures on how to do stuff in Second Life. Then I went outside and went for a fly. Then went to a place close to the building which in the middle had a random couch.

All new accounts go to one of several "Orientation Islands", and then have an option of going to either Help Island or to the Mainland.
Once you leave either Orientation Island or Help Island, you can't go back. But there is a "Orientation Island Public" and "Help Island Public" that can be found in the Places search, which are the same as the standard ones, minus the flood of newbies.
LL changes and updates these islands on an irregular basis, so even if you could landmark them, tey won't remain the same. Similar training available, but they do evolve.

Then went to a place close to the building which in the middle had a random couch. That could be several places. It describes the entry portal where I hang out, Caledon Oxbridge University, pretty well. You can return to Oxbridge, unlike Linden Lab's official "Help Island". Try the following: 1. In Edit/Preferences/General, check to see that your login screen is set to show both your Home and Last Location as login options. 2. Choose "Home" when you next log in. If you aren't at Oxbridge, then open Search. In the Places tab, search on "Caledon Oxbridge University", and teleport there. Once there, in the World menu, select Set Home to Here. This will enable you to return the next time you log in.

Hi Dessicated! I think your very first landmark is saved in your library folder in your inventory. Good luck!

If you choose to go to a specific orientation place then things can be different (they are called gateways)
some gateways will allow people back, others will not (I am not referring to the linden help islands where people start when they sign up using the Second life website, but rather portals from other websites)
so I guess the first question is...
did you sign up via the second life website, or some other way, and were you referred by someone who gave you a location to start at, or was it just,,, you wanted to try SL?

sounds like the default help island places that are set up by linden lab (the creators of second life) don;t worry though, you do not need to go back there, if you are in need of learning things, just do a search for classes, or if you just want general info, the oxford place is really good for that or just meet people and ask for help

From: Dessicated Audion I told you I wanted to Create a Landmark their because I liked the place. Dessicated (did you know your first name is misspelled? It ought to be "Desiccated" , As we've told you, there are many places where you can start SL, and not all of them can be returned to. Without a better description, we can't do much to help you find the spot where you started. I suggested Oxbridge because I think it's one of the very best places to begin SL, or to get a refresher on the basics. Besides, it's a very lovely place, and there are always friendly people there to talk to. The only other "starting place" that I can suggest is Help Island Public. There's a landmark for that in your Library/Landmarks folder.

From: Dessicated Audion Well I suppose It doesn't matter anyway. It might be in your landmark folder like Lindal said. Give it a try when you login again

From: Dessicated Audion I told you I wanted to Create a Landmark their because I liked the place. (when did you tell me this?) even if you wanted to create a landmark, IF it was one of the linden help island starting areas, you still would not be able to return. without knowing exactly where you started, it is hard to tell if you may have been able to go back, and being it is too late now.. just move on and enjoy SL and explore.
