Is there such a thing?
I want to send a friend some Linden Dollars for christmas without just paying him. Seems crass that way somehow. LOL

Several people have told that you can send L$'s through the website as a gift but I'll be darned if I can see it.

Thanks
FaTeke

I had asked about this once before and I think the general consensus was there is no such thing. Only way to give money to another person is inworld by "paying" them, in the pie menu.

Wish there was. I really didn't want anything much as far as Christmas gifts from family in RL and the thought of getting that cash I know they are going to give me going straight into my inworld account and making me feel like an SL millionaire was a nice thought *sigh* Something about me having to deposit it in my RL account and then move it again that takes the fun out of it, at least for me :D

I've never felt a cash gift in RL as being crass or thoughtless, I always like the idea of the recipient getting something they want as opposed to something I think they want. Same goes for SL. send them a nice card and give them the Lindens. or give me the Lindens. You don't even have to send the card.

Many stores offer gift certificates good AT THAT STORE. Some even include a discount...you get a 10% bonus if you buy using a certificate.

If your friends have a favorite store, or if you do, this can be a solution to your problem.

I've seen this thing called Metacard come up. Might want to search for that.... it's not vendor-specific.

One cute way to do this might be to create an object that pays the person you want to give the gift to when they touch it or say something in chat - simple script. The slightly awkward part is that you, the giver, still need to own the object (it needs debit permissions from you).

But you could give the person a landmark to it, or leave it on their kitchen table if you are able to! Or rez it in front of them as their gift, with a texture or hovertext that says "Touch me".

You could even have it disappear once it's paid them in a shower of particles. :)

You could I suppose get a scripted item that is a nice card or something and upon being "opened" pays the recipient. But you'd have to be very, very careful with something like that as it requires debit permission, so unless you can script it yourself or a very well-known, respectable business has one then I wouldn't go that route.

Well, since you own the object at all times I don't think there's a big risk ... presumably you would either:

-- Have the script set up to pay once only, and of course only to a single avatar (probably you would set this up to read the avatar's name and amount from the object description, via chat from you, or via notecard).

-- As I say, you could even have the object delete itself after it pays

-- If you wanted them to also have a copy of the greeting card or whatever object you give it in, the object can also give them an un-pay-scripted copy of itself when it pays them.

I actually make greeting cards that open and optionally poof a little, lol, i guess i could make this as yet another of the "products" that I never get around to selling.

Why not make it interesting? Create an alt (or several if you want to get really creative) and have them each give your friend $50L? Or $1L each if your friend likes/appreciates sadistic jokes. :)

Wow, the suggestion to create an object that will pay them when they touch it is a great one. Would anyone be willing to tell me where I might find a script like this?
I'd even be willing to pay someone to write it for me. :)

Thanks everyone!
