Finally purchased a perfect piece of waterfront mainland and I'm looking for the best yacht or motor boat to use for exploring SL oceans. It is going to be a gift for my partner so I'd prefer one that is transferable or that I can buy as a gift. I have absolutely no idea what to look for in a SL boat and will gladly read any recommendations.

Be careful, most of the yachts I've seen cannot be used for sailing the waters. They are too big. Make sure whatever you choose will actually work as a sailing vessel. It will likely be a relatively small ship.

There are really two kinds of boats in SL...driveable, and stationary. Some of the stationary yachts are really beautiful, and can be unique places to live. They tend to have two generic problems: They're primmy, compared to a comparable sized house, and they have low headroom. Unless the yacht is REALLY big, you may feel cramped inside, because of your camera follow position above and behind your av.

Driveable yachts can be sail or power, and can be great ways to explore SL. I prefer a small sailboat for exploring...the fewer prims your vehicle has, the less likely you are to run into a "full sim, your vehicle is being returned to your lost and found" situation.

Actually, unless you are dead set on a boat, the BEST vehicle to explore SL (besides just teleporting around) is a helicopter or airship. They're slow enough to see and avoid banlines, and you don't have to stick to roads or waterways.

Congrats!! We just got a super one from Robin Lobo. Here's a picture album of it.

We love it! Go to Nanogunk West and check it out. Cigar Yacht CIGARALE II is the one we got. She's making more too.

I bought this and I can heartily recommend it - the best powered boat that I have ever used and it comes in a range of colour schemes that are included in the package:

For sail boats I recommend Trudeau boats - I have the Leetle Cat and the Tradewind both of which are superb sailing vessels :)

Also if you go to the Barbossa sim you can get a decent free sailing boat if you want an easy to drive sail boat.

Trudeau gets my vote also, I have 3 of her sailboats and may buy a fourth. No matter what else you get, pick up one of her Leetle Cats, they are a blast.

You can see and test drive her yachts here:

and test drive the Leetle Cat here:

Fun in research

I can see this is going to require test drives. I'll post which one(or more) I end up getting. I'm thinking I'll at least have to get the Leetle Cat for myself before I can make an informed decision about which I get for my partner:o

Thank you for the suggestions...now I know where to start with this fun research project.
