Expired Region???

So I'm trying to tp to my shop to finish some work, and I can't. I tp to a club right over the sim line, and try to walk...as soon as I hit the sim my av goes on autopilot and keeps on walking, then I get booted back to where I walked on, and get a blue error message that says "expired_region_handoff"...anyone know what is going on?

May have something to do with that.

Exactly what it says. When you move between sims, the sim you arrive from has to send a lot of stuff to the sim you go to, for example, any scripts you have running, and in general transfer control of your avatar. If it cannot do that for whatever reason -- whatever reason today being problems with internal Linden Labs network that started after they rolled in the new server version, probably, disturbed something that was flaky anyway -- you get an 'expired region handoff' message.

Sometimes you don't get such a message at all. If you're moving at the time, you can end up 100km above or below the ground and nothing will help you short of a relog.

It's not the region that expired, it is the 'handoff'. This often happens when you cross sim boundaries too fast, or any other reason that sim B doesn't receive the message from sim A that says "Ralektra is coming, and here is her info: " in good time.

IME this doesn't happen any where near as often as it used to.

BTW, don't ask how fast is "too fast" when crossing a sim border. It will vary greatly by network conditions, phase of the moon, casting of bones, shaking the magic 8-ball, etc.

Some times/places you can drive a sports car right across sim borders with nary a hiccup. Other times/places you fall through the ground if you try to walk across.

If you find a location that frequently has problems with this (a busy store, for example), sometimes pausing within a couple of meters of ther border for a few seconds can help smooth your passage, or 'handoff'.
