Can't seem to find this- I think I saw it somewhere....
I'm ready to buy a 512 m plot (experimental first property), and wondering how high I can build above ground. IOW- how much of the sky is mine?

I have a 30m tower, and wonder if I could use it as basis for a hut or gazebo.
(I realize prims are very limited, and 512 ain't much for a residence.)

I would be buying in residential/commercial mixed area. (Not renting, unless you guys would persuade me to do so).

Edit: Afterthought- I guess I could take the tower out and just use the top section as a floating platform, but I like the connection with ground.

you can build up to 700 meters (it is actually a little higher but 700 is a good even number)
after that point you can not rez prims.
I do think you might be able to move stuff up above that 700 meter spot but not sure... could easily find out, just try it LOL

edited to add after a test

768 is the exact number

after that number you can not even move the prims up, I sat on a prim and tried to move it up past 768

no go

If you're buying on Mainland, the sky's the limit. Well, for certain values of "sky" ;) Right now you can go up to 768m. After Havoc 4, at some point, that ceiling will lift (to 4096, last I heard).

Generally speaking, anything attached to the ground looks okay, but if it's floating, it's best if you can push it up above the cloud layer (about 200m).

Certain parcel controls (group access restrictions, for example) only go to 50m above ground level (so if ground level is 50m, they'd lose effectiveness at 100m elevation).

lol thanks
and you are welcome (edited to put in the actual number, but see someone else beat me to it LOL
(and with additional info)

the 768 is a hard number
(it is not based on the height of your land, that is the number regardless if your land is at 20 or 200 meters :))

...and just to mention, there are ways to push builds up past that limit (I had a nice little skybox at 1000m's for a while...was mostly stable...mostly...)

But yes, 768 is the max height to actually rez something.

/wanders off, memories of that skybox floating in his head...

Hmm- Joseph, if that's what high alt does to the brain, I think I'll keep a lower profile

Thanks to both of ya for kind, fast help :)

how did you push it so high, I tried and it stops at 768
(a linden told me that if you do get past the 768 things can get real buggy) but you are not supposed to be able to get over the 768

Rmike, you are welcome
I would suggest that if you do plan to go that high, to get a flight feather (or mysti tool even better) or use a TP system...

There are a couple of ways. Dragged from inventory, you can rez things much higher (maybe 2048 with Havoc 1; not sure) as long as you have something to rez it *on*. So the slow way is to just stack up prims till you reach the desired height. Faster: use a physical script to move the rezzing platform into position.

But once it's rezzed, it's stuck. You can't edit it into position, and (non-physical) scripts can't move it around, or it will jump right back down to 768m. (The Linden's worry of things getting "buggy" might have to do with prim drift and rounding errors. Or the fact that lots of attachments and other scripted items assume they can rez stuff--which at higher altitudes will end up putting them back down at 768.)

Fast way of same result...attach the item to your AV and fly up to the height desired...then drop it (not detach)...it will flop down in the air at that height. Sadly, as Qie mentioned, there's no way to move it, so, the drop may need to be repeated as you shift your position.

And something comical about a little cat flying high into the air with a teahouse held firmly in his paw...

(and yes, this still works...just tested it)

I have a copy of a script that will allow you to rezz builds as high as 4096 m, but as soon as you try to move an object up there it drops back down to 728 m.

I tried to push up to 800 by building a platform and changing the z coordinate. I found it at around 758. I built a large two story on this and everything works well. No problems with rezzing, and the fps is fabulous.

I just built a cube on the roof to experiment. At 771meters. It dropped back to 768 as soon as I selected it to position with edit.
