I have a question, I am newbie and I dont know much about scripting or anything. I want to change the way my avatar walks when I hit arrow keys. Not something I have to turn off or on, just automatic. How do I do that? Also, how do I make any animation/gesture automatic?

You will need an Animation Override - or ao. You can buy these from a few places, there are a few threads about this, so it may be worth searching in the forums for details.
If you want to make your own have a look at this:
http://www.mermaiddiaries.com/2007/07/day-307-animation-override-ao-tutorial.html
It should tell you how to create your own ao attachment. - btw, it doesn't have to be a bracelet - you can put it in a tiny prim in your head if you wish lol.

I am not too sure about gestures though, someone else may have to help you on that one, I think you just have to click on activate when they are in your inventory and then every time you type the shortcut or choose from the menu it will animate you.

If you haven't read up on a thing called "animation override" you might want to. The short term for such is "AO".

There are a bunch of different animation overrides. There would be a script already written in the AO.

Our avatars have a bunch of "animation states" they can be in. Sitting, walking, flying , hovering, stuff like that. There is a default animation for each state. Scripts can detect what state the avatar is in and make the avatar use a different animation than the default for each of the various animation states.

That's the gist of what an animation override is.

In practice what you do is put animations in the animation override and possibly a notecard with the names of animation states and their corresponding animations.

Simply animation overrides may not require anything but wearing or attaching a scripted object.

I'm sure there is a free animation override at NCI headquarters, and a bunch more places.

There's a good chance someone will have given you one by the time I post this.

Also, many shoe designers are including walk AO's now. Some are stand alone attachments and some are scripted into the shoe.

If you want to walk and pose like a goofball then use any AO. It doesn't matter much which one you use. :)

The cost of an ao can really vary. You want to take time and find gestures that work for you. In the meantime while you look, or if you don't have the funds yet, there are many free ones out there. They may not be as good as the ones you can purchase but they are much better than the standard one. Bare Rose is another place that offers a free one.

If you are only interested in a walk as opposed to the rest of things then there's a fair few free walks. IM me in world if you're not already set up with it :)

There is a free animation overrider that works great at Sarah Nerd's :) includes stand poses as well.
