I have started a petition to get Linden Labs to remove traffic from the search filter. I am getting really annoyed at the bot farms and people loading their sims with campers and alts, creating tons of lag. I am hoping this will make a difference if people will sign it.

http://www.gopetition.com/online/15344.html

My question is;

Will you please sign it?
Also, could you let me know what you think of this? Is it a good idea?

PS. don't know if this really belongs here but I didn't know where else it could go.

EDIT: Ok, I've had a few people say they don't want to provide their RL name, which is completely understandable. I have requested an edit to the petition (it needs to be approved before it takes effect). You can put you SL name instead of you RL one. But please make sure that in the comments box you state that you have put your SL name.
Hopefully this will make it easier. If you have already put your RL name and wish to change it, you can delete your signature and resign. If there are any problems with any of this please PM me. :)
Thanks

What makes you say that? With the new search factoring in traffic, it seems like they've entrenched it further in the system.

Well I think traffic ought to count for something.

Certainly it should count if all those OTHER arcane things nobody can figure out count, such as how many prims you have named "Frank," or how many hundreds of dollars you spend on classifieds each week, etc.

it gets less important so no real use of having 80 campers but use up all available prims and set them for sale will have more result aswell of spamming ur business with LM`s and to add to ppl`s picks

if u think traffic/search was bad... wait till this has been fully implemented...

if they get rid of traffic... there goes my new hobby of hunting down zombie bot farms.

to get rid of it though, is sort of a good idea, but then good legitimate creators won't get noticed either. I usually do my search, then look on the map. If the dots are scattered, I assume the traffic is high because the items are actually good. If I see the green line of 20+ dots, I avoid it as I assume its just another crappy creator trying to drum up traffic with either "lake bottom" bots or camping bots.

I'll go check out the petition anyway though ;-)

Only the largest stores have dots all the time, and that is because they are good. Others are just pretenders. Sadly, very few places command dots all the time without camping.

New search isn't going to alleviate the traffic problem. I do not believe that traffic should go away, but it should not be used in search.

When Linden Lab oaid us for our traffic - camping pads were a problem because LL ended up paying out thousands or US Dollars because of the gaming. After the Developer's Program ended - we still need traffic. Retailers rent in areas with large, legitimate traffic.

I'm at a Shop right now that has about 30 camping chairs outside. The owner is stood counting all the people, who all have those 'I'm on welfare' signs above their heads.

Its obvious she has just gone and rounded up a load of noobs to sit on her land for hours on end. I feel like going round and giving them all some money so they'll get up and enjoy SL instead of adding to her traffic.

GRRR!

Do you know this helps her?

Do you know a place with a load of campers really does better than you do?

Traffic does not mean this person sells more than you do, people just suppose it does

I hear a rumor that the traffic counting algorithm will be changing very soon, to one based on the number of people visiting, not the duration of time spent. Anyone know if there's any truth to this?

I would love to see traffic removed, and have the rating system in the profile put back in

I liked rating ppl, it was fun and it always felt good to see those ratings :)

Also it was nice to be able to rate someone's object

question though, why do I need to provide my RL name when I sign your petition?

That would provide even more incentive to create alts.

You don't. Just fill in the "required" boxes. Use SL name. Vote counts anyway. I just did it,

I find traffic useful to compare my venue's attendance day to day. The traffic number is some mystical calculation of not only the number of avies who visit, but how long they stay. I keep track over time and see what days we had the highest traffic numbers and then look at what we were doing that day.

As I see it, LL will probably not get rid of traffic ratings all too soon... because it would mess up their shiny numbers. Mainly, the "L$ spent in last 24 h".... which would drop to an all-time low if no one would spent money on campers...
