Grrrrrrrrrrr Ims

i desperatley need help...........i cant get my im window to open at all i have tried uninstalling sl 3 times to no avail...its driving me nutz....i get ims from other people but i dont get the window the im i see in main chat but its still private, and if i click on them i get the pie menu and the choice to click the im but nothing happens ...also i cant get private voice as i cant get a window even if someone else does it all i get is noise

Have you tried to click on the Communicate Button down below on your left hand side?
right with the communicate button is a Arrow. Click that arrow and try re-docking windows

you mean the talk button?

Should be a Button on lower left of your screen that says communicate

yes i click it and it just brings up my friends list


but i have jsut seen somthign my talk button is highlited now it was not before but thats because i was in nor and it does not do voice

Yes that does bring up your friends list and also any private messages you have.. Private chat windows will show up there if you have any . Right now when clicking it you will see your friends list but if somone messages you it will also show up there. test it

omg dilbert i did as yo usaid and now i dont get my friends list or local chat uop anymore what has happened?

See the tabs at the bottom of that window. There should be one for each IM session (and the local chat history). No?

(No idea on any voice problems. I had it working for a few minutes on one of my machines, I think, several months ago. That was enough for me.)

yes but i did as Dilbert said and redocked windows and i have no idea what that means but i trusted his judgment as im not very good with comps
and now its not giving me my friends list anymore

Redocking puts all the communication windows back together in the same window (Communication) you will see all your groups in one tab. main chat in another. And friends list in another tab . And any private messages will be on a seperate tab as well

What version of Second life are you using?

Right, well, redocking is a good step. Now, not seeing the Friends List in the Communicate window could either be because the Contacts tab at the bottom isn't selected, or (if Contacts is selected) the Friends tab isn't selected at the top.

Is this some new problem somehow? The chatterbox (a.k.a., the Communicate window) has worked like this for quite a while now.

I don't know much about these things, but is it possible that your chat/IM window fell off the edge of your viewer?

I figured that might have been the case . Thats why i instructed her to re dock the windows and put them alll back in the communication box

Sounds like an isolated bug .. Pretty oddd

You might want to try deleting your settings.xml file.

Also, what version of Second Life are you using? It's at the top of the Help / About Second Life dialog.

You can try changing your UI Size and then change it back again, or changing your screen resolutioni and back again.

Screenshots might be useful, if you know how to do that.
