choose "passport number" and stick your NIS number in, it works (in UK only)

Passport and NIS numbers are pretty different so by that logic you should be able to stick anything in there.

This is one of the things that really concerns me about the current age verification system: As I understand it, there isn't, or at least there shouldn't be, a database of our NI numbers anywhere, except the one the government keeps, so I don't understand what they can be verifying it against.

I'd be interested to know whether anybody has tried using a made-up NI number, and whether it worked. Of course I wouldn't advocate anybody doing that - I am sure it is very naughty ;)

For most on non-USA, people entering their ID are volunteering data that the the verification company did not already have access to.
What is happening is data collection, not verification of data.

There is a screamingly obvious question:
If the 3rd party verification company do not have the data against which to verify, why are they asking for that data?

There is a screamingly obvious answer:
Whatever LL might say about the assurances they have from Integrity about the security and use of the data, Integrity are collecting data that will be commercially useful to them.

Well, given how much sensitive data the British government has managed to lose lately (personal details of all those with children in the UK [some 25 million people] lost by HM Revenue & Customs, personal details [inc. NI numbers] of another 15 million people [customers of Standard Life] also lost by HM Revenue & Customs, personal details of 6000 drivers in Northern Ireland lost by the DVLA) then it wouldn't surprise me if a database of all NI numbers in the UK was approaching completion somewhere anyway...

I said this about a year ago on this forum. Nobody believed me.

What's also scary about this, is with Chaos's solution to supply false information, is that corrupt information could lead to problems years down the line, hell getting through US customs now is difficult enough, I would hate the day they ask me if I was also know as Dekka Raymaker from Second Life and why my passport number didn't check out on their system (LOL), also think Terry Gilliam's Brazil!!!

This sounds like various entities of the US Federal, State, City, County, etc... governments.

They're probably glad of the chance to snag a few more NI numbers via Integrity and SL. It must be like waiting for the last few stickers to complete an album when you're a kid.

"Hey, I've got a Ronaldo here..."
"Oh, I've got six of him. Get one in every pack. I've got, like, seventy Beckhams. I only need a Lampard and a Cole, then I've got the whole set!"

People here in the States have been able to register as their dog, Elvis, and assorted other dead and fictional characters. I've always believed this is nothing but a data mining scheme, and still do, and will not partcicpate in it.

"Not Applicable", "Not Available" (etc.) have also been known to work, and have the advantage that you aren't actually supplying false information.

Chaos, maybe your parole officer could write a letter for you?
