Hiya everyone

I have a question. It's probably answered in some faq somewhere, but I don't need any steenking faaaks. I instead rely on the endless charity of my long-suffering community.

So like, url and picture links in the forums. They don't work. Yet people keep using them. Am I missing some feature somewhere? Is this what your $9.95 a month gets you? Please confirm, credit card is ready.

for pics, if your change the ... to it usually works for pics. Strife also has a plugin (greasemonkey) for Firefox. I couldn't get it to work for me, but it is prolly operator error.

This thread has a plugin script for Firefox to use with the tool Greasemonkey, that emulates the proper links and such, even though the forum doesn't do it properly, with this it displays properly.

Sounds like a good way to fix it, too bad I'm stuck on Safari after some inexplicable cross-version Firefox bugs.

I guess I'll just suck eggs and like it.

FYI: It's not a workaround. That's how it's supposed to work. Many bbCode functions have long been disabled on this forum, but IMG tags were left intact.

Anyway, Nih, to answer your question about why people continue to use URL tags, I can think of three answers off hand:

1. Most people have "Automatically parse links in text" turned on by default in their preferences. If that's on, whenever you type a web address, URL tags will get added as soon as you hit the Submit button.

2. When bbCode was disabled, we were told the measure was temporary, and that the functionality would be reinstated "soon", with a forum software update. A lot of people kept right on using all manner of code tags, under the assumption that things would read properly "soon". It's been well over a year now, and "soon" still hasn't become "now".

3. A lot of people use Strife's Greasemonkey script, which emulates most bbCode functions in Firefox.

I have a feeling that it is more of #3 than the others

I'm sure it will be any day now! :p

Or install Linkification if you use Firefox. In fact, install it anyway, it improves pretty much any forum and website you visit.
