I am a roaring sound, if i turn or move my view around, the noise drops off and will pick back up as i contenue to move my view or avatar around, its not always there but is 90% of the time. Ive been told its SL wind. If this is true, how do i turn it off without turning all ambiant sounds off.

Ive also been told it is caused by noisy textures, can this be true?

sometimes it gets so lound i have to turn my sound off or leave the area Im in.

I have always heard it too. I think it might be the wind. Anybody else know what it is?

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

Yup. It's the wind. You can adjust certian catagories of sound by pressing the little button the right of the speaker icon on the lower right of the screen (in the version I am currently running) and pulling up a menu of individual sound settings in addition to the master volume control. You can try adjusting the individual levels, including lowering the ambient volume level. I am not sure if that decreases the wind noise relative to other sounds, but I think so.

Can anyone confirm or correct that?

If you keep on letting that lion follow you around like that you'll never get rid of the roaring! :)

It can also be the sound of the ocean waves, or a waterfall. Can you hear this 'roar' inside stores? As what others have said, play around with the volume controls found on the complete bottom left of your screen. The little triangle is a drop down (up).

Whether you're hearing wind or water, if you turn down the Ambient sound slider (either via the little sound icon as others have said, or in Edit/Preferences), you can lessen or turn it off. I think this decreases SL's automatic "footstep" sound too, and maybe the clunking noise on stairs.

It is the wind, and you can turn it down or off. Open up the 'volume' (think thats what it is called) icon at the bottom of the SL screen and turn down 'ambient' sounds. You can control the other sounds as well.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions, yes turning down the ambieant slider helps alot, however you loose other sounds like doors opening and so on.

btw, funny that wind in sl goes right thru walls, as it doenst matter if im inside or outside, or even deep inside a mall i still have this loud roar. :(

cya all in sl :)

Made me laugh, too! :D

Unfortunately, all the wind blew some sand in my eyes, and I can't quite make out all the signals...

not only is it way over done if you turn down the volume teh program still has to 'make' the noise and the WIND noise takes up like 75% of your cpu and it cant be turned off. the volume can be lowered but the program still 'renders' it.....

someone did post a 'patch' to reduce the load of wind noise on the computer in the secondlife dev mailing list, but i dont know if they ever added it into the production viewer

From: someone

Am I reading this right? The stupid wind noise that everyone turns down
uses more CPU than almost everything else the client is doing?
